he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him” (Jas. 1:12). The in c o r r u p tib le crown — “And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible” (1 Cor. 9:25). The crown of rig h te o u sn es s— “ Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appear ing” (2 Tim. 4:8). The crown of glory — “ And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away” (1 Pet. 5:4). Perhaps some of you are asking, “What will we do with these crowms?” Rev. 4:10 gives us the an swer. ~Wjs will cast them at the feet of the Lord Jesus as we fall down before Him seated upon His throne and worship Him that “ liveth for ever and ever.” What a glorious event this hair magically changed into Clara’s golden, curly locks would not make you beautiful.” “Why, Mother, what do you mean?” exclaimed Lois looking inter ested. “ Real beauty comes from within a person, Lois, and shines on our faces. If we have Jesus living in our lives and filling us with His beauty, our lives become beautiful too.” That was a new thought to Lois but she turned it over in her mind as she ate her potato and kept think ing about it until bed-time. When Daddy came in to say good night he found her on her knees by her bedside, saying a simple little prayer. He heard in soft whispers: “ Please, Jesus, come into my life and make it beautiful.” Daddy kissed his little daughter good-night and said: “ I am glad you are going to let Jesus show you what real beauty is.” Next day and in the weeks that fol lowed Lois did not forget her prayer. She was very happy, not quite under standing just why but she knew Jesus was helping her to be a brighter, kinder girl than she had ever been. It was only a few weeks later that

will be! The glitter of the most costly jewel will pale into insignificance be fore the glory of His crown and throne. In Matthew 27:29 you will read about the cruel crowm that the world placed upon the head of the Lord Jesus, a part of the dreadful suffering that He endured in order that we might some day receive from His hand these beautiful crowms. In Hebrews 2:9 we read of the crown that the Lord Jesus is wearing now as, seated at the Father’s right hand, He ever lives to pray for us. When He comes again to this earth in the second coming, He will wear the diadem, the crowm of crowns, for He is “ King of kings and Lord of lords.” You can read about this in Revelation 19:12-16. For handcraft, cut out five crowns from some golden yellow construction paper. W rite on each the name of one of the five crowns. W ith your crayon, decorate them with jewels. Then, by using Christmas snow and paste, cause them to glitter. By plac ing small pieces of outing flannel or felt on the back of each, they will cling to your scripturegraph board. Lois received a wonderful little thrill that she never forgot even in the years .when she became a growm-up lady. She had been cleaning the snow off the walk for her father, who had come home tired from a hard day’s work. It had been a heavy job for Lois, who was not very big for her years, but the air had been, cold and bracing, giving her an abundance of energy. As she came in, her hair flying and her cheeks glowing, she caught a glimpse of herself in the hall mirror and suddenly she stopped. It was seldom she ever bothered to stare at herself in the mirror since the night, of her special prayer. A glance to see if her hair was neat was usually suf ficient. But tonight her two bright eyes re flected in the glass sparkled back at her So gaily that they caught her by surprise. It was a beautiful bright face she was looking at. Could it really be hers? And then like a little light the truth dawned on her and she closed the sparkling eyes and whispered: “ Thank you, God, for making me a little window that Jesus can shine right through.” THE KING 'S BUSINESS

(A story to read dr tell) T his is the year for crowns. Last June all eyes were turned toward England where Queen Elizabeth II was crowned. What a thrilling moment it was when the beautiful crown was placed upon her head!' Those who read this page may never wear a bejeweled crown such as was placed upon the royali head of Queen Elizabeth II, but all may receive a heavenly crown. God’s Word tells of five crowns which the Lord Jesus himself will give to His faithful ones at the crowning day. I’m sure you would like to know the names of these crowns and what you must do to earn one. You will find the names of these crowns in the following Bible verses. Locate them in your Bible and under line the name of each. The s o u l-w in n e r ’ s crown — “ For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing?' Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?” (1 Thess. 2:19). The crown of life or the martyr’s crown — “ Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when 1 think our little daughter is becom ing very vain,” said Mother in a voice so clear that 11-year-old Lois could not help but hear in the next room. Daddy smiled at Mother over the supper table. “ Is she still looking at herself in the mirror?” he asked with a gay chuckle. i “ I’m not getting vain,” cried Lois as she bounced in the door from her bedroom and took her place at the table. “But1 oh! I do wish I had lovely long curly hair like Clara Wright has and I do wish my nose turned up instead of down,” and Lois ran her fingers through her short mop of black, straight hair and squeezed up the tip of her pointed noise in such a funny ridiculous way that Daddy could not help but lean back in his chair and laugh. But Lois didn’t see anything very funny. She looked very solemnly at the baked potato on her plate as Mother said kindly: “You are just like any other little girl, Lois. You want to be beautiful. But there are different ways of get ting beauty and I am afraid having your nose squeezed up and your 30
