SUNDAY SCHOOL continued in Christ Jesus unto good works.” Helps for the Children Ready to be of Use Matt. 5:13-16; James 1:22 Memory Verse: "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven" (Matt. 5:16). Many Christian boys and girls have be come exceedingly selfish. They know the Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour, hut they are not concerned about those who do not have the joy of being a child of God. The Lord Jesus told His disciples that they were the salt of the earth. Salt makes one thirsty. Christians should live such happy, satisfied lives that others will be thirsty to know their Saviour too. Salt also preserves—it keeps things from spoiling. So Christians should keep the words and the actions clean and pure in any group where they are living. The Saviour also called His children the light of the world. He reminded them that men do not light a candle and place it under a basket where it cannot be seen. The Lord Jesus commanded those who love Efim to “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Have you noticed that.our good works as God’s children are not to cause others to praise or glorify us? When we become proud and want others to praise us or tell us how wonderful we are, we are not letting our lights shine. If others see our actions and hear our words and see the Lord Jesus in them, we are truly letting our light shine for Him. God’s Word com mands, “But he ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves” (Jas. 1:22). Oct. 25, 1953 The passages selected for this week’s les son may well be used to stress the evil influences of alcoholism. There are other things set forth in thp passages but they surely may find a present-day application for the Christian today in the matter of his attitude toward the liquor traffic in its various and subtle forms. Few evils have done more to blight human life than that of strong drink. Thus because Chris tians are not to have anthing to do with things that cause men to stumble, they can have nothing to do with this evil. The Consequences of Drinking Iso. 5:11-14 Six woes are pronounced in this unique chapter upon sinners of various kinds. The sins are those which are common to the natural man. It is interesting to note that the number of these woes (six) is the number of man in Scripture. He was made on the sixth day. Six days of labor were appointed to him. The Hebrew slave was to serve six years. The number of the man of sin is 666. So in the passage be fore us six woes are pronounced upon man who indulges in the things of the flesh. The particular woe before us is the one against those given to strong drink. “Woe” The War Against Beverage Alcohol Iso. 5:11-14; Matt. 18:6; Rom. 13:11-14; Jas. 4:17 Pointers on the Lesson
