Since Jesus has gone back to heaven, He needs those who will carry on His work here on earth. In Mark 16:15, we read, “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the. gospel to every crea ture.” This verse is known as the Great Commission, and it shows us that He wants us to preach and reach each one in need of salvation. Oct. IX 1953 H elps to H appiness OBJECTS: A yardstick, a red cardboard cross one yard high, two pictures of men cut from a catalogue, a church letter, a baptismal certificate, a dic tionary and a piece of paper on which is printed, GOD’S PERFECT STAND ARD. ‘ LESSON: For what are yardsticks used? “ To measure things and be sure they are right.” Did you know that God measures people? We will lean this yardstick against the wall and thumbtack GOD’S PERFECT STANDARD above it. Now we will place these men at the feet of the yardstick and see if they reach GOD’S PERFECT STANDARD. They do not come any where near it. We will let them stand on a dic tionary, reminding us of learning, but

with, “ Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” (Matt. 5:3). The word blessed means happy, and it is used several times in the Sermon on the Mount. This Sermon on the Mount was given to show GOD’S PERFECT STANDARD for man, but no one has ever been able to reach that standard apart from Christ. We will place this large cross, rep resenting Christ, in front of the yard stick. It reaches GOD’S PERFECT STANDARD. Christ is the only man who ever measured up to the PER FECT STANDARD OF GOD. Inas much as Christ has reached this standard, He desires, by His death, to lift others to that standard. (Place the men in a pocket behind the cross and near to the top, so that they will, reach the top.) , Now that these men have accepted Christ as their Saviour, they are lifted in Christ to where they reach GOD’S PERFECT STANDARD. We are only able to live up to the Sermon on the Mount as we are new creatures in Christ, and by His grace, are able to do the will of God. OBJECTS: Two pieces of paper: one with a sketch representing the globe and the other a sack of salt. (Make the picture of the globe by using two pieces of paper 7^ inches in diameter. Cut an opening Vz x 3Vi inches in one of the pieces of paper, beginning 2 inches from the top and ending 2 inches from the bottom. Fasten the two pieces of paper to gether “by pasting down the sides and across the bottom. With a crayon draw the lines of longitude and lati tude on the front and back. Put the piece of paper representing a sack of salt between the two sides of the world, and beneath the opening. In the opening and on the inserted “ sack” piece, printing downward, write the word SALT. Using the letters of this word, complete the fol lowing words, writing on the globe at both sides of the opening: SATIS FIED, CLEANSED, FELLOWSHIP and FAITHFUL. On the back of the world write the word SIN several times.) Oct. 18, 1953 S alt and S in

OBJECTS: A correspondence envelope and a red cardboard cross. (Cut a slot in the front of the envelope 1 inch wide and 6 inches long. In this slot, on the uncut side of the envelope print the word PREACH. The base of the cross should be the same width as the envelope and about lVz inches in depth. T h e .crossarm and upright of the cross should be 1 inch wide. Cut the upper end of the envelope off, in order that the cross may be inserted.)

LESSON: How many words do you see on this envelope? I hear you say, “ One.” Apparently you are right, but I am speaking to you about HIDDEN WORDS, and I want you to be care ful, lest you miss seeing some words, which at first do not appear. In Luke 4:18 we read, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gos pel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the broken-hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and re covering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.” The word PREACH means to her ald or proclaim a message. We will now start hunting for the hidden words. I will move the red cross down a little, covering the letter “ P” and we now see the word REACH. Christ vvanted to preach in order that He might reach those who were in need. Next, we move the cross down until the “ R” is covered, and we discover the word, EACH. Christ preached in order that He might reach each in dividual.

they cannot reach GOD’S STAND ARD. We will put this baptismal cer tificate on the dictionary. The stand ard is still not reached. To these we will add a church letter, only to find that God’s standard has not been met. Learning, baptism, and church membership are commendable in their proper place, but they never can save us, and cause us to reach GOD’S PERFECT STANDARD. The Sermon on the Mount begins
