YOUR ABILITY TO FACE LIFE Part III
by Dr. Lloyd T. Anderson
Facing the will of God should be the goal of our life each day. There is much we need to know which can only be determined in this manner. An artist painstakingly sought to capture on canvas the breathtaking splendor of a landscape soaked in the glory of the setting sun. In the foreground was a dilapidated barn and some old refuse. Seeing how fast the dusk was coming, and at how much time the artist was spending on the old building, a friend remarked, "You will have to decide whether to paint shingles or sunsets." How many of us waste our time on trivialities. There is a potential danger in praying, "Give us this day our daily bread," while never getting to the part that petiĀ tions, "Thy will be done."
SENSITIVITY TO GOD Prov. 3:5-6 are oft quoted truths concerning how we may know the will of God. "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct (make straight) thy paths." Unfortunately it is not in man's nature to want his steps to be directed in accordance with God's will. He wants to walk in his own way, without concern for his Maker's approval. Isaiah made this sage charge (53:6). In the New Testament Paul says the same thing (Rom. 3:11, 12). It is only through the work of the indwelling Holy Spirit that we can become sensiĀ tive to God's desires in and through us. The first prerequisite is that we have made a full and unmitigated surrender to the Lord. Study the lives of those men in Scripture who astounded their contemporaries by their uncommon abilities to make Page 41
