“I TRY TO SHOW UP DAY AFTER DAY, HOUR BY HOUR AND NOT WORRY ABOUT WHAT’S AHEAD.”
A: Community is truly everything to me. We attract who we are on the inside, and when we are authentically ourselves, our community responds and gives authenticity back to us. The Works Cycle community is full of all types of people. We may not all vote the same, have the same sexual orientation, believe in the same things or agree on everything, but this community is full of people who all have a common goal – to continue to show up for themselves and each other everyday. In that way, we always come together despite our differences. Q: WHAT DOES COMMUNITY MEAN TO YOU, AND HOW DO YOU CULTIVATE IT AT THE WORKS CYCLE?
A: Opening any small business is full of so many challenges. One of the biggest challenges I have found is the willingness to stay focused on the end goal despite all the little things that will come up throughout the process. Q: YOU’VE BUILT SOMETHING THAT FEELS DEEPLY PERSONAL YET WIDELY RESONANT. WHAT CHALLENGES DID YOU FACE IN BRINGING YOUR VISION TO LIFE?
A: Becoming an entrepreneur has made me truly realize the amount of work that goes into every single tiny thing that the outside world sees from a small business. Now, when I eat at restaurants, or see amazing marketing campaigns from small businesses, or attend a brand dinner, all I can think about are the million decisions, time, and energy that went into making it happen across all the details. I have so much respect for small business owners, and I strive to always support local businesses when I can. This experience has also made me realize that everyone is doing their best and to give people so much grace. Q: HOW HAS BEING AN ENTREPRENEUR SHAPED YOUR PERSPECTIVE—BOTH PROFESSIONALLY AND PERSONALLY?
