A: We opened The Works Cycle as a pop-up in October 2020 in our office at The Works Sweat Studio. The office is now our corporate headquarters, but at the time was a private space for hosting classes. We blacked out the windows and threw nine bikes in a tiny space to see if the concept worked. From there, we built out our flagship studio in Downtown Charleston, and a year later opened our second studio in Mount Pleasant, right near the beach. The Works brand now has five studios in Charleston and we’re just getting started. One lesson that I have learned along the way is that I am only one person. I have to show up, deliver, and then move on in every situation. That way, I’m able to be fully present for my team and my family when they need me, and, most importantly, for myself. As a business owner, things can be so chaotic, so it’s essential for me to minimize distractions and stay focused on the task at hand. I try to show up day after day, hour by hour and not worry about what’s ahead. Q: HOW HAS THE WORKS CYCLE EVOLVED SINCE IT OPENED, AND WHAT LESSONS HAVE YOU LEARNED ALONG THE WAY?
