Data from the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Sur- vey shows that durable goods manufacturing accounted for most of the increase in job openings, rising by 24,000 to 280,000 in October. Nondurable goods openings edged up by 1,000 to 130,000. Across the broader economy, total job openings ticked up to 7.7 million in October, an increase of 12,000 from September and 55,000 from a year earlier. The overall job openings rate remained unchanged at 4.6 percent, the same level as last year. While the labor market has eased back toward pre-pandemic norms, it remains relatively tight by historical standards.
