Member Learning Courses JANUARY 2026
INTRODUCTION TO MENTAL HEALTH Throughout this introductory course, learners will be introduced to mental health issues such as depression and suicide, and build an understanding of stress. Topics covered include an introduction to using appropriate language when supporting others and the importance of self-care as a tool to potentially improve mental health. VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN & GIRLS The issue of violence against women and girls is not solely confined to the home. Between 73% and 98% of women and girls in NI experienced at least one form of violence or abuse in their lifetime. NI has the second highest rate of femicide in Europe. The issue can no longer remain ‘behind closed doors’ or be something that ‘just happens’. Many employers have policies to protect women at work from harm. Health and Safety legislation protects those who may be at risk of violence, and employers have a duty to protect their staff in the workplace. This session will take a look behind the statistics on the real impact of gender- based violence and examine critical emerging research on the upward trend of VAWG in NI. It will look at what constitutes violence, coercion and abuse, and what needs to be done to end an endemic problem for Northern Ireland and society in general. This workshop will also cover the outline of the support available and where to turn to for help.
