ORGANISING STEWARDS
Stage 2
UNISON stewards are the most important link between members in the workplace, their employer and the wider union. This 10-day course is for new stewards to give you the knowledge and skills to support members locally and take on issues in your workplace. The next three days (Stage 2) is for workplace representatives and will certify you as competent to accompany members at disciplinary and grievance hearings in order to comply with the Employment Relations Act 1999.

NEURODIVERSITY AWARENESS FOR ACTIVISTS: ADVOCATING FOR INCLUSIVE AND ACCESSIBLE WORKPLACES UNISON activists play a vital role in supporting members to understand their rights, navigate challenges, and create fairer workplaces. This session introduces a neurodiversity-affirming perspective to help activists recognise and respond to the needs of neurodivergent members. Participants will explore what neurodiversity is (and what it isn’t), common workplace barriers, and how environment and systems - not individuals - often create disadvantage. Through practical examples and discussion, activists will build confidence in having informed, compassionate conversations, challenging ableist assumptions, and advocating for reasonable adjustments and inclusive practices that allow all members to thrive at work.
