TRASH PANDAS FIELD STAFF #31 ANDY SCHATZLEY MANAGER The second manager in Trash Pandas history, Schatzley guided the team to the top of the Southern League standings in 2021, winning both first and second half North Division titles for the best record in the league at 81-57. The 2022 Trash Pandas marked the first time the Angels’ Double-A affiliate reached the postseason since the Arkansas Travelers accom- plished the feat in 2015. Following the season, Schatzley was named the 2022 Southern League Manager of the Year, becoming the first Trash Pandas manager to win the award. He earned the 2021 Preston Gomez Award as the Angels’ Minor League Manager of the Year. #15 JOEL CHIMELIS HITTING The third hitting coach in franchise history, Chimelis arrives in Rocket City after spending the 2023 season as a hitting coach at Triple-A Salt Lake. While there, Chimelis guided the Bees offense to a .274 average and 172 steals, both fifth in the Pacifc Coast League. Chimelis helped lead former Trash Pandas Trey Cabbage and Jordyn Adams to seasons with over 10 home runs and 30 steals. Chimelis was drafted as a shortstop in the 11th round of the 1988 MLB Draft by the Oakland A’s and would reached as high as Triple-A. Chimelis played in 68 games for the Huntsville Stars in 1991. #43 MICHAEL WUERTZ PITCHING Wuertz is back in 2024, the only member of the staff to remain with the Trash Pandas for their first three seasons. Under the direction of Wuertz, 10 former Trash Pandas pitchers made their MLB debut for the Angels over the past two seasons. The 2024 season will be Wuertz’s seventh season in the Angels organization, having previously worked with High-A Inland Empire and Rookie-Level Orem. As a Major League pitcher, Wuertz posted a 3.71 ERA and a 21-11 record along with 11 saves over eight Major League seasons. In addition to three years with the A’s, Wuertz spent the first five seasons of his career with the Cubs. #37 DANN BILLARDELLO COACH Billardello is in his third season in the Angels organization after spending most of the last 16 years in the Cardinals system managing Low-A, High-A, and Double-A. He won a Pioneer League Championship in his managerial debut for the Great Falls Dodgers in 2002. Appeared in 382 MLB games over eight big league seasons from 1978-1994, playing for the Cincinnati Reds, Montreal Expos, Pittsburgh Pirates, and San Diego Padres hitting .204 with 18 home runs, 91 RBI, and 79 RBI in his MLB career. Also, he played in over 800 minor league games, hitting .260 with 90 home runs, 385 RBI, and 347 runs. During his big league career, was teammates with Hall of Famers Tony Gwynn, Johnny Bench, and Andre Dawson. DAVID ROBERTSON STRENGTH Robertson joins the Trash Pandas and the Angels organization after earning Northwest League Strength and Conditioning Coordinator of the Year honors in 2022 for High-A Hillsboro in the Arizona Diamondbacks system. Prior to his coaching career, Robertson spent five seasons as a professional baseball umpire from 2005-09, including a stint in the Southern League. He is also an Army Veteran. DYLAN CULWELL TRAINER Culwell joins the Trash Pandas organization after previously working in a similar role for High-A Tri-City. He was named the Northwest League Athletic Trainer of the Year after the 2022 season. Prior to the 2023 season, Culwell served as an athletic trainer during the World Baseball Classic for Team Italy. Culwell has four years of experience as the head athletic trainer at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Culwell graduated with a BS in Athletic Training at both the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and Tabor College. He also earned his MS in Health/Health Care Administration Management at Grand Canyon University.
