HOTEL/PUB TAVERN OF THE YEAR - METRO The Plough Inn
WINNER
If Peter and Di Goss thought 2023 was a year of success for the Plough Inn, 12 months on and the couple could hardly have scripted things better. Last year the Launceston hot spot took home three awards – Best Sports Bar, Best Outdoor Experience and the major title of Metro Hotel/Pub Tavern of the Year. This year the venue successfully defended all three titles, while also adding a fourth after being crowned Best TAB Wagering Venue. But it was going back-to-back in the major category which came as the biggest surprise. “We got told no one has won back-to-back so a first there, well done to our whole staff and everyone who supports us,” Peter said. “To our customers, without them we aren’t here. It’s pretty good. All the tears and headaches is all worth it when things like this happen.
which appeals to a wide demographic. It is this feature, especially in a tough economic climate, which makes the couple most proud. “Our outdoor space is something we strive to make as great as an experience as we can for our customers, and it doesn’t matter what time of the year it is we can cater for all weather,” said Di.
“We just try to keep improving… keep that standard high for everyone.”

HOTEL/PUB TAVERN OF THE YEAR - REGIONAL longley international hotel
WINNER
Longley International was the only new major category winner in 2024 when it took home the Regional Hotel/ Pub Tavern of the Year. In the process Longley edged out the likes of Bridge Forth Hotel – which also came runner up in the Best Live Music Venue for Pubs/Taverns category – as well as North West gem Stanley Hotel and the impressive Callington Mill Distillery, who were awarded best new or redeveloped hospitality venue earlier in the night. It capped a brilliant evening for owner Hannah Brereton, who has continued a family legacy with the property to keep it as a favourite not only among the locals but for those who venture down the Southern Outlet. “I didn’t realise we were up for this, it is nice to get recognised. We think we are pretty special but it’s nice to get recognised,” Hannah said. “It’s taken 24 years of hard work. But we wouldn’t be there if it wasn’t fun.”
The Longley International has long held a reputation as one of the Tasmania’s premier hospitality offerings for live music – back to back wins in the Best Live Music Venue for Pubs/Taverns attests to that – but now the hotel in its own right can lay claim to among the best in the state.
