2024 was an historic year for Tasmania at Australia’s Top Tourism Town Awards, medalling in all three categories, including snaring the honours as the country’s Top Tourism Town. Tasmania shone at the 2024 Australia’s Top Tourism Town Awards, held at Parliament House in Canberra last month, with iconic Tassie towns placing in all three categories. Devonport on Tasmania’s north west coast was announced as Australia’s Top Tourism Town for 2024. Chief Executive Officer of the Tourism Industry Council Tasmania, Amy Hills, said the achievement was something the entire state should be proud of. “Our towns in Tasmania have a true sense of community and play such a crucial role in our state’s visitor economy, and for Devonport to take out Gold on the national stage just shows how well we do things in Tasmania,” Ms Hills said. “Nestled along Tasmania’s north west coast, where mountains meet the sea, Devonport seamlessly blends natural beauty with a refined urban charm. Serving as a vibrant hub of the Cradle Mountain region, Devonport is an ideal launchpad for unforgettable day

trips – not to mention the new waterfront precinct and expansive parklands giving visitors plenty to do locally as well.” Tasmania also medalled in the remaining two categories – Richmond was awarded Bronze in the Small Tourism Town category and Stanley took out Silver in the Tiny Tourism Town category. “Both Richmond and Stanley are iconic Tasmanian towns. Their heritage, natural beauty, local culture and charm are on full display and are what makes these destinations so special and popular among visitors.
