Hospitality Review: October/November 2024

Clubs Tasmania

Workshops are an important and popular activity for community clubs, aimed at strengthening and educating the sector. In September, we conducted several Committee Leadership sessions across the state, focusing on enhancing committee operations. These sessions covered essential topics such as understanding committee roles, managing conflicts, strategic planning, financial oversight, setting clear goals and objectives, and building cohesive and effective committees. Through participation in these leadership sessions, club committee members walked away with greater confidence on how to manage their responsibilities more effectively and contribute meaningfully to the success and growth of their respective clubs. Additionally, last month, we partnered with the Tasmanian Community Fund to offer a series of free grant writing workshops. These sessions were tailored for both first-time grant applicants and those looking to refine their skills in crafting compelling funding applications. Workshops were held around the state, offering valuable insights and practical tips for putting together strong grant proposals.

As we move toward the end of the year, we will be hosting several Strategic Workshops across the state. These sessions are designed to help clubs understand the importance of developing a strategic plan, which is essential for any community club. A well-crafted strategic plan outlines an organization’s direction, sets clear goals, and details the steps needed to achieve them. It serves as a decision-making roadmap and ensures that the efforts of all members are aligned toward common objectives. Later in the year, we will be hosting volunteer workshops where participants will learn valuable strategies for maintaining, re-engaging, and recognising community club volunteers. These sessions will provide insights on how to strengthen volunteer involvement and show appreciation for their contributions.

In early October, in conjunction with Bowls Tasmania, we hosted the “Battle of the Codes” bowls event at Government House. This fantastic gathering brought together representatives from various Tasmanian sporting organisations in a relaxed and enjoyable environment. We were deeply honoured to have been invited by Her Excellency, the Honourable Barbara Baker AC, to participate and assist in organising this unique event. It’s rare to see representatives from all of Tasmania’s major sporting codes come together in one place, making the day an excellent opportunity for networking, sharing ideas, and—most importantly— having some fun.
