L’équipe de hockey junior A de Rockland a connu deux victoires et une défaite la semaine dernière. Les Nats ont battu les Braves de Brock- ville 4-2 lundi dernier, mais se sont inclinés à domicile 5-2 vendredi, face aux Canadians de Carleton Place. Ils ont terminé le weekend du 21 février dimanche, sur la route, en battant les Bears de Smiths Falls 7-2. Dans les trois matchs, les Nats ont eu un léger avantage sur leurs adversaires au chapitre des tirs au but. Les Nats contre les Braves Vincent Labelle a ouvert le score pour Rockland contre Brockville avec un but sans riposte en première période. Il a marqué à nouveau en deuxième période et brisé la tentative d›égalisation des Braves, ce qui lui a valu une nomination aux trois étoiles. Danile Menges a prolongé l›avance de Rockland une minute plus tard, mais Ryan Gillespie, de Brockville, a de nouveau compté 30 secondes plus tard. Le capitaine adjoint des Nats, Cole Craft, a marqué le but gagnant pour Rockland dans les 30 premières secondes de la troisième période. Rockland contre Carleton Place Vendredi soir dernier, à domicile contre les Canadians, on a vu une version inversée de la victoire des Nats sur les Braves. Carleton Place a ouvert le score grâce à un but de David Gagnon en première période, sur un jeu de puissance, qui est resté sans riposte. The action on the ice was hot over the February 21 weekend with the start of the National Capital Junior Hockey League’s playoffs schedule. For the three Prescott-Russell clubs in the league, the quarterfinals series of games has the Vankleek Hill Cougars matched against the Gatineau-Hull Volant, while the Clarence Creek Castors face the North Dundas Roc- kets, and les Aigles de St-Isidore deal with the Bytown Royals. Both the Cougars and the Castors finished the weekend with one win and one loss against their opponents. Les Aigles crowned the Royals two games straight to take the lead in their quarterfinals schedule. The Cougars beat the Volant 6-3 in last Friday’s opening match in Gatineau of their quarterfinals series. Le Volant returned the favour by taking the Cougars down 9-5 the following Saturday night at the Vankleek Hill Arena. Scoring for Vankleek Hill Friday night were Nikolas Ayotte, Justin Chaumont, Mathieu Cloutier, Vincent Huneault, Jonathan Lacroix, and Samuel Lemay. Assisting were Lemay, Zack Labbé, and Charles-Olivier Portelance.
Rockland Nationals had another three-game split week in the Central Canada Hockey League, with wins against Brockville and Smiths Falls and a home-game loss to Carleton Place. The Nats are on the road February 29 and March 1 against Kemptville and Cornwall. —photo Gregg Chamberlain

Jace Miles a commencé la série de buts sans réplique avec un but à la quatrième minute. Gunnar Smith a ajouté deux buts tandis que Joe Jordan en a compté un seul, donnant à Rockland une avance de 4-0 sur Smiths Falls, au début de la deuxième période. Reid Russett a inscrit les Bears au tableau d’affichage vers le milieu de la
deuxième période. Puis Smith a marqué son troisième but pour un tour du chapeau, ce qui a permis aux Nats de reprendre quatre points d’avance. Ryan Richardson a marqué le but final pour Smiths Falls, 30 secondes après la fin du tour du chapeau de Smith. Le capitaine des Nats, Matthew Vermaeten, a redonné à son équipe quatre points d’avance dans les 20 dernières secondes de la période.
Aidan Hilton a terminé le score avec un dernier point pour Rockland dans les deux dernières minutes du match. Smith a reçu la nomination de première étoile pour le match et son coéquipier Cole Craft a été nommé deuxième étoile. Les Nats terminent le mois de février sur la route vendredi, à Kemptville. Ils se rendront à Cornwall samedi.

Goals for the Cougars Saturday night came from Nicolas Castonguay with two and singles from Justin Chaumont, Mathieu Cloutier, and Jonathan Lacroix. Goal assists came from Ayotte, Chaumont, Portelance, Austin Gaspar, and Trystan Lavoie. The action returns to Vankleek Hill February 26 for the third game in the series.

The South Grenville Rangers, who were the West Division champions, also received their honours as well as recognition as the first-overall team in the regular season schedule. Keean McEachern of the Cougars also received the NCJHL Best Defence- man Award for his on-ice work during the 2019-2020 season. Joining him in the honors’ spotlight was Nicolas Castonguay, as the NCJHL nominee for Best Defensive Forward. Jacob Servant of the Clarence Creek Castors was named Rookie of the Year for the NCJHL this season. Fellow Castor Andrew Hazard was named for the Bédard Family Memorial Award for his contribution to the team and the league.
Two of Prescott-Russell’s clubs in the National Capital Junior Hockey League scored some end-of-season awards for their trophy cases. The February 14 All-Star game challenge in Metcalfe, between the East and West divisions of the National Capital Junior Hockey League (NCJHL), finished 7-3 for the West. But it was the end-of-season awards presentation that proved the real winning event of the night for two of Prescott- Russell’s member clubs in the NCJHL. The Vankleek Hill Cougars received their 2019-2020 East Division Champions pen- nant as part of the evening presentations.
