LATITUDE

IN THE CABINET: KENNEY GOVERNMENT INCLUDES TWO PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERS The provincial election is done and dusted, and we’re always pleased when members take their talents to the political stage. In April, APEGA members Rick Wilson, P.Eng. , and Prasad Panda, P.Eng. , were sworn into the cabinet of the province’s first United Conservative government The Hon. Rick Wilson is the MLA for Maskwacis- Wetaskiwin and was appointed Minister of Indigenous Relations. Along with years of municipal council and school board experience, he has been a business owner and farmer in his constituency for decades. In fact, his family farm—which has been in operation for more than 100 years—is recognized as an Alberta Century Farm and Ranch. Mr. Wilson grew up in the Summer Village of Ma-Me-O Beach on Pigeon Lake, going to school with many students of the four First Nations bands of Maskwacis. With this provincial portfolio, he will focus on reconciliation and consultation, along with ensuring Alberta’s First Nations have a seat at the table in the province’s prosperity.

The Hon. Prasad Panda is the MLA for Calgary- Edgemont and was sworn in as Minister of Infrastructure. An active community volunteer, he has served as president of the Telugu Association of Calgary and as the first vice-president of the India- Canada Association of Calgary. During his 28 years of experience in the energy sector, he has held senior management positions and has been a key member of teams that built $100-billion, world-scale projects. His involvement in the private and public sectors give him the experience necessary to deliver key infrastructure needs to all Albertans.
