prophecies were spoken centuries be fore He was bom you are impressed with the amazing character of His life. The reason these prophecies were given is that those who read might have added evidence that Christ is the Son of God and only Saviour. (Study a few of these prophecies Isaiah 7:14 with Matthew 1:18-25; Micah 5:2 with Matthew 2:1-12; Jeremiah 31:15 with Matt hew 2:16-18, etc.). Christ is amazing in the manner of His life. From the very' begin ning of His public ministry He caused a stir. This was true in the account of Mark 1:21-28. Study this passage paying sp e c ia l attention to w . 22, 27, 28. When He taught He spoke with full and confident as surance. Men who heard Him knew that He spoke the truth; they sensed something unique and wonderful about Him. And they were right, for never man spake like this man. When men witnessed the miracles which He did they knew that here was a Man such as the world had never seen (John 9:32; John 3: 1, 2). Christ is amazing in the manner of His death. Read the account of the crucifixion and you will see that no man ever died as the Saviour died. Prophecy was fulfilled in His death (John 19: 31-37); God hung a blanket of darkness over His Son as He died (Matt. 27: 45); Christ dismissed His own spirit at His death, something no mere man can do (Matt. 27:50; Mark 15:37; Luke 23:46; John 19:30); the veil of the temple was rent from top to bottom when Jesus died (Matt. 27:51); some were resurrected from the dead when He died (Matt. 27:52, 53); there was a terrific earthquake when our Lord died (Matt. 27:51). A ll these things convinced onlookers that this man died as no other man had ever died, and some confessed that He was the Son of God (Matt. 27:54). Christ is amazing in His power over death as evidenced in His resur rection. Read Matthew 28, and hav ing read it, praise the blessed Saviour who conquered death, not only for Himself, but for all who put their trust in Him (John 11:25, 26). Christ is amazing in the events subsequent to His resurrection. Two significant things followed Christ’s resurrection: forty days later He as cended into Heaven (Acts 1:8-11), and ten days after this He sent the Holy Spirit (Acts 2). Both of these amazing events not only astonished those who witnessed them, but they also convinced them that Christ was the very Son of God (cf. Acts 2:36). CONTINUED

Even though there may be just cause of complaint, yet the exercise of en durance and a forgiving spirit will avoid much unpleasantness in the home. The real essence of family success is love (Col. 3:14). The Apostle says “Above all . . . put on love.” This means that love is the most impor tant attribute of the believer. Study First Corinthians 13 in this connec tion. Ask yourself, Am I observing this truth in my own attitude at home? Each member of the family ought to let the -peace of God flood his heart (v. 15). It is pretty difficult to become overly upset about things when the peace of God rules the heart! The members of the family ought to let the Word of God take its in tended place in their hearts and lives (v. 16). Daily study and faithful practice of the Word of God will assure a harmonious and beautiful family r e la tio n s h ip . God give us Christian homes! , May 17, 1953 Some Were Astonished Mark 1:21, 22; John 3: 5-12 The Lord Jesus Christ is the most discussed individual the world has ever known, and about Him there are many and varied opinions. Some think that He was an imposter and deserved to die on the cross; others think that He was a martyr to a good cause; still others think that He vyas a fine man and a great teacher. Others of us have found Him to be the eternal Son of God and only Saviour from the guilt and burden of sin. The Christian is supposed to be a man who accepts the claims of Christ regarding Himself; who trusts in this Saviour, and who seeks to please Him in his entire life. There are many, however, who want the name of a Christian, but who today, believe none of the things taught by the Bible and held by God’s people through the centuries. We need to ask ourselves, Just what do I believe about Jesus Christ? In the passage in Mark 1:21,22 the people were confronted with Christ and were amazed, in this case, with His doctrine, but actually every thing about Christ is amazing. I want us to think for a moment about this amazing Christ, and then ask the question, How do you feel about Him? The Amazing Christ Christ is amazing in the circum stances of His birth. Every prophecy in the Bible related to His birth was fulfilled to the very word. When you recall that some of these
