Mayor Robert Lefebvre had one answer to the spate of rumours about Hawkesbury Hydro going on the sale block. «Hawkesbury Hydro has not been sold,» said the mayor during a phone interview December 13. Mayor Lefebvre was responding to rumours and comments appearing on Face- book that the municipal electricity distributor was sold or was in the process of being sold. The mayor said that if there were any plans or proposals to sell Hawkesbury Hydro, they would have to go through council first. «Hawkesbury Hydro cannot be sold, or any of its assets sold, without it first going through council,» he said. Hydro Hawkesbury Inc., the official name of the company, is the local electricity dis- tributor for the Town of Hawkesbury. The municipality is the owner and sole share- holder of Hawkesbury Hydro. 5IFDPNQBOZXBTJODPSQPSBUFEJO/PWFN - ber 2000 in its present capacity, and is a publicly regulated service with local distri- bution costs for electricity approved by the 0OUBSJP&OFSHZ#PBSE)BXLFTCVSZ)ZESP employs five staff and its latest customer figures are almost 5500 clients within its distribution area.
The history of Hawkesbury`s local power distribution system dates back to to the early 1800s when water power provided electricity for the operation of local mills. Over the decades the Gatineau Power Company, which was part of Canadian International Paper, managed the power supply for Hawkesbury. The desire for a more independent municipal hydro service resulted in the DSFBUJPOPGUIF)BXLFTCVSZ)ZESP&MFDUSJD Commission (HHC) in 1954. During the 1990s, the provincial plan for deregulation as part of changes to Ontario`s electricity market, resulted in reincorporation of the HHC as Hydro Hawkesbury Inc. in 2000, with the municipality assuming full ownership and control of its energy distribution from Gatineau Power/Hydro Québec. VCI DRAMA CLUB PRESENTS ‘SCROOGE!’
Hill after several delays because of weather and other factors. The Drama Club at Vankleek Hill Institude (VKI) finally presented their production, ‘Scrooge!’, on Friday, Dec. 12. The school auditorium was almost filled up with students, staff, and some parents eager to see the VCI Drama Club’s interpreta- tion of the Dickens’ classic, following a script by Gary Peterson. The familiar story of “the meanest man in London Town” repenting of his miserly ways and rediscovering both the joy of Christmas and his own humanity received loud applause. Theaudience itself became part of the show, serving as the corridors of time and space through which the Three Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future led &CFOF[FS 4DSPPHF CZ UIF IBOE UISPVHI his journey of rediscovery, reflection and recrimination.

Le canton de Hawkesbury Est a confir- mé son budget 2026, qui comprend une augmentation de 6 % des impôts. Le conseil municipal a approuvé le budget municipal 2026 lors de sa réunion du 8 décembre. Le budget prévoit une augmen- tation de 6 %. « Parfois, il faut faire ce qu’il faut faire », a déclaré le maire Robert Kirby lors d’un entretien téléphonique ultérieur. « Je n’aime pas voir les impôts augmenter. LUC ROYER C’est avec tristesse que nous vous annonçons le décès de Luc Royer, survenu le 10 décembre 2025, à l’âge de 70 ans après une longue et digne épreuve vécue avec la maladie d’Alzheimer. Natif de Sherbrooke, Québec, il était le fils le plus âgé de feu Germain et de feu Françoise Royer (née Hamel) d’Alfred. Homme de cœur et de service, Luc a consacré une grande partie de sa vie à se rendre utile auprès des siens et de son entourage. Ses amis et collègues se souviendront longtemps de son engagement au sein du Service des incendies de L’Orignal et de son bénévolat auprès des Chevaliers de Colomb de Hawkesbury, parmi d’autres. Il laisse dans le deuil ses enfants, Jean- François (Nicholas Hillier) et Jacynthe (Yves Rocque) ainsi que ses petites-filles adorées, Chloé et Noémie. Lui survivent également ses frères et sœurs, Céline, Solange, Mario et Sylvain (Michelle) ainsi que plusieurs neveux, nièces, cousins, cousines et amis de longue date.
