SNORING IN THE SHOWROOM How Massage Chairs Help You Find Peace

With all the people sitting comfortably in our massage chairs in the showroom, you would think I was a master at relaxation. I’m not great at it. I’m a kind of hyperactive guy, and it takes some effort for me to find the type of peace

I have a few other techniques, like yard work and an app called Calm, which includes guided meditations and stories to listen to. Recreational travel is also a wonderful way to tell your body and mind to settle down. But when I think of relaxation, I can’t help but see visions of our happy clients snoozing worry-free in a massage chair! When I started selling the chairs in the showroom, people kept falling asleep in them. You can often hear snoring in the building, but it’s a pleasant

everyone needs. Whether it is meditation, a beloved hobby, or a relaxing massage, people need to find the methods that work for them to reduce stress.

National Relaxation Day is Aug. 15, and though relaxation isn’t my forte, I’ve found some great ways to wind down after a busy day. It doesn’t take much to bring yourself into a calmer mindset, and some of the best ways to relax are also fun. Of course, massage chairs are an excellent tool to lower your stress level, get better sleep, and reduce pain.

sound when you realize people have literally found such peace there that they drift off to dreamland. I never want to wake them because one of the major side effects of stress is difficulty sleeping. This might be the first nap they have been able to enjoy for quite some time. Massage chairs have been proven to have positive impacts on stress. My friend, Dr. Olpin of the Stress Relief Center at Weber State University, has done several studies on the

One of my favorite ways to relax is a classic: reading a good fiction book. An exciting story can take me away from whatever I’m stressed about and help me refocus. It’s funny because my wife can always tell when I’m reading an anxious or suspenseful passage. My shoulder may twitch, or I might start tapping my foot. Another thing I do is turn to sports. Though it’s not the most serene game, playing hockey

decrease blood pressure.

does wonders for the things weighing heavy on my mind. Participating in sports allows you to spend your energy and reduce the amount of stress hormones in your body. It also releases endorphins, which can improve your sense of well‑being and decrease pain. I’m a firm believer in prayer and meditation. Prayer became significant in my life at a fairly young age, when I was 17 or 18, and it’s been a constant for me ever since. I went through some difficult times dealing with intense and constant stress. During that time, hockey and praying were the only things that really brought me comfort. When you pray or meditate, you get everything outside of yourself. Anytime I have something overwhelming going on, or I’m in an emotional situation, prayer kind of levels everything out.

Whether it is a riveting round of hockey, a lively novel, or a snooze in a massage chair, we must find the best ways to relax. Everybody deserves

to feel a sense of peace. Though I could use some practice in relaxing, I know one thing for sure: After a busy day, that symphony of snoring in the showroom sure sounds inviting! —Dr. Alan Weidner

BURN CALORIES FASTER Try These Quick Calorie- Blasting Workouts In the quest for fitness efficiency, especially in today’s fast- paced world, many of us are looking for the most effective exercises to maximize calorie burn in the shortest time. Whether you’re squeezing a workout into a busy schedule or just aiming to maximize your gym time, here are five exercises that can help you torch calories quickly. HIGH-INTENSITY INTERVAL TRAINING (HIIT) High-Intensity Interval Training, or HIIT, is the best method for burning calories fast. It involves short bursts of intense exercise alternating with low-intensity recovery periods. For example, sprinting for 30 seconds followed by one minute of walking, repeated for 20–30 minutes, can do wonders. This method burns a high number of calories during the workout and elevates your metabolism for hours after you’ve finished. INDOOR CYCLING Spin classes or indoor cycling can be exhilarating ways to burn calories. Depending on the intensity of the workout and your body weight, you can burn between 200 and 300 calories in just a 30-minute session. The key is to maintain a high intensity, utilizing both the bike’s resistance settings and the pace at which you pedal. RUNNING Simple yet effective, running is one of the most efficient ways to burn calories. The faster you run, the more calories you’ll burn per minute. Interval running, where you alternate between sprinting and jogging, can also be particularly effective for quick calorie burning. JUMPING ROPE Jump rope is not just a playground activity; it’s a high-intensity workout that burns about 10 calories per minute. It’s a fantastic cardiovascular workout that improves heart health and stamina. SWIMMING Swimming is a total-body workout that is both high-intensity and gentle on the body. It effectively burns calories (around 200–300 calories in 30 minutes) while also being low-impact, which is excellent for those looking to reduce stress on their joints.

The Evolution of Mass

Did you know the first massage chair was built in the early 1950s? A Japanese man seeking relief for his daughter’s severe headaches used a kitchen chair and some sewing machine parts to make a massaging mechanism for her. Since then, massage chairs have evolved by leaps and bounds, especially regarding the roller track, the primary

mechanism responsible for that massaging action. So, get comfy because we’re about to explore the evolution of the roller track. STRAIGHT ROLLER TRACK After that early iteration of the roller, the straight roller track used a wheel on the side of the chair to move the rollers up and down. Though this was before the introduction of the electric massage chair, this variety is still used in some models today.

S-TRACK Most chairs today have an S-track, the next evolution in massage chair technology. The name comes from the ‘S’

shape it follows along the spine, forward in the neck and low back regions, curving back to the mid-back and hips. This variety allows for a quality, full-body stretch program. These chairs can recline all the way and offer options for full-body and segmental stretches.

CLIENT

TESTIMONIALS

“Great staff, awesome product. While this has been the most expensive chair I’ve ever purchased, it’s been worth every penny. I bought the Daiwa Supreme and have not regretted it for a second. This chair is now one of my best friends, and I’ll be honest, my wife gets a little jealous of the time my chair and I spend together. I’m tempted to buy another for my office due to my separation anxiety when I’m not home :)” —Ryan A. “I just got the new chair and gave it a test run. This chair is a beast — just what I wanted, deep tissue pulverization! LOL. I registered it and it’s going to be a lifesaver for me to be able to keep playing my fiddle! Thank you so much for all your help. You really do run quite an extraordinary operation and I’m so thoroughly pleased that I found you guys.” —Kathy P.

Incorporating these exercises into your fitness routine can significantly enhance your calorie-burning efficiency. Remember, the key to these workouts is intensity. The harder you push yourself, the more calories you’ll burn and the less time you’ll need to work out. Always ensure you balance high-intensity workouts with adequate rest and recovery, and consider having a fitness professional create a workout plan tailored to your personal health and fitness goals.

PARTS TO SPLIT TRACKS age Chair Technology L OR SL-TRACK The L-track or SL-track built off the success of the S-track and improved it. Unlike the previous chairs, this variety extends under the seat so the roller mechanisms can reach your back and glutes.

J-TRACK A variation of the SL-track is called the J-track. This one just allows the user to sit at a greater angle for a fuller stretch. This variety can go to 135 degrees versus the SL-track, which can go to 90 degrees. SPLIT-TRACK The most recent development in roller tracks came out just a few years ago. The split-track uses two separate tracks, one for the seat and lower back

and the other for the neck, shoulders, mid, and lower back. The split-track is growing in popularity and gives you options for full-body stretches and a roller massage for the glutes and back.

From the ingenious kitchen creation of the 1950s to today’s advanced roller tracks, the journey of massage chairs is a testament to innovation and comfort. Who knows where the world of massage chairs will go next, but we’ll be along for the ride in total relaxation.

Q: Do I need to clean my massage chair? A: To ensure your chair stays in good condition, clean it at least every few weeks or as needed. Always unplug your chair first and wipe it down with

a soft, dry cloth. You can use a vacuum to eliminate smaller dust particles or hair that may get caught in the corners.

If you have any stains, spot-test with a neutral cleaning solution and proceed if it doesn’t cause discoloration. Let it air dry. Q: Is there anything else I can do to protect the chair?

TAKE A

BREAK

A: Position your chair in a location that does not get direct sunlight. Direct or prolonged sun exposure can damage the chair’s material and cause discolored spots. If you prefer a little sunshine while enjoying a massage, cover the chair with a cloth to protect it when it’s not in use. If you have a leather chair, you may want to buy a special oil you can use to keep it from cracking over time. Q: What about massage chair maintenance? A: Your massage chair has several motors, shafts, and many moving parts. Therefore, it is important to check its condition regularly. The internal components of the chair should be left to professionals, but keep your eyes open for any warning signs that it’s not operating properly. Contact an expert if you notice any strange sounds, have trouble turning the chair on or off, run into problems trying to switch settings, or experience any functions not working. Q: Should I limit my time in the chair so it lasts? A: Using your chair regularly will actually keep it running better and longer. If you don’t use your chair for an extended amount of time, the parts inside might stop working properly. Routine use ensures all the internal components of the chair are lubricated enough to function optimally. You can use your massage chair as much as you want but aim to use it at least once a month to keep it running smoothly.
