Soccer club celebrates anniversary ROCKLAND | Next year is a banner year for Rockland United.
the years, the club’s competitive program has enjoyed great success with the U-divi- sion teams "nishing in the top rank of their seasonal leagues. Next year the RUSC will have two teams playing in the East Region Soceer League’s regional division. “That’s a true accomplishment for a club this size,” said Rudeen. Next year also marks the 10 th anniversary of the club’s own successful Soccer and Fit- ness Festival. The annual recreational event highlights the skills and abilities of RUSC’s younger members along with providing a promotional opportunity for other recrea- tional groups and businesses. The club has since provided an extensive development program for players, goalkee- pers, and coaches, both student and adult, during the summer and winter seasons. A referee development program is in the works for 2015. Also on the planning board for next year is a new adult house league to help encou- rage more men and women in the Cla- rence-Rockland and surrounding areas to get involved in recreational soccer. While the club’s main focus since its founding was on youth soccer, many of its members have grown up and moved on to adult compe- titive teams in the Ottawa-Carleton Soccer League. Club members also continue to work on a long-term dream for the RUSC of an indoor turf facility in the community which would allow both soccer practice and game op- portunities year-round and also serve as an indoor recreation site for other groups. With all the plans for the next year, the RUSC executive is also working on ideas for celebrating both its own 20 th anniver- sary and the 10 th anniversary of the annual soccer fest. Part of the celebration includes an opportunity to give away tickets to the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup games held next summer in Ottawa. Details on the FIFA games tickets gi- veaway will be announced at a later date. Calendar days The gift that lasts all year long is now available for everyone who admires beau- tiful scenery. The 2015 Prescott-Russell Recreational Trail Calendar is available at various locations throughout the region. The third edition of the trail promotional product is a joint venture between the Barnyard Studio and the Prescott-Russell Recreational Trail Association. The photos are all from local photographers working through the studio as part of its photog- raphy instruction program. The photos highlight both particular sections of the trail and the various recreational activi- ties it supports. Copies of the calendar are available at many locations, including the Alfred-Plantagenet municipal o!ce, in Bourget at Brazeau Sanitation, Carol Marcil’s Sprinklers, Pharmacie Bourget Pharmacy; in Curran at Hermann’s Timber Frame Homes; in Hammond at Francine Carrière Photography, the Rona J. Lalonde outlet, Station 4 Saisons; in Plantagenet at Imprimérie Plantagenet, La Binerie Plantagenet, Les Serres M. The action kicks o# for the local soccer club before the spring registration even begins for the summer season. Rockland United Soccer Club (RUSC) celebrates its 20 th anniversary in 2015 and the club exe- cutive and volunteers are already working on plans to mark the occasion. “Local soccer was initiated by a group of soccer enthusiasts in 1995,” stated Duane Rudeen, RUSC spokesman, “and has since grown from less than 200 members into an incorporated club of more than 800 in 2014, and is looking to close in on the 900 (mem- ber) mark for 2015.” About a quarter of the club’s membership consists of children and youth players, ages four to 17, spread across the various recrea- tional and competitive play divisions.
