Free well water test Rural residents who depend on private wells for their drinking water can have a free test of their water courtesy of the Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU). The EOHU urges homeowners to take advantage of the service to make sure their water is free of any harmful bacteria like E. coli. Local EOHU o"ces have well-water testing kits available with instructions on their use. Water sample bottles are also accepted at EOHU o"ces for lab testing. They can be dropped o# any day except Friday and pic- ked-up later. Private wells should have their water quality tested at least three times a year during the early spring when the run-o# begins, in mid-summer, and in autumn before the snow arrives. ATV trespassers warned OPP over in the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry counties region are having problems with some ATV riders ignoring the “closed trail” signs posted by the Nation Valley All-Terrain Vehicle Club (NVATVC). Two men already face trespas- sing charges as a result of riding on such trails. ATV riders are reminded that clubs like the NVATVC or the Eastern Ontario Snowmobile and ATV Club (EOSATV) and groups like the South Nation Conser- vation Authority (SNC) maintain recreational trails for winter and summer use. These trails may be closed during spring and fall when ground conditions are bad, both creating the chance of bad ruts and gullies left behind from the weight of ATVs and also increasing the risk of accidents on trails which have become slippery. Some trails that the SNC maintains are for horseback riding or cycling and are forbidden to ATVs during the spring, summer and autumn seasons. Five Steps to Positive Parenting practices that target teenagers

As a parent to a teen, you are probably no stranger to mood swings and eye rolling. Raising adolescents can be a challenging time for parents and teens alike. That is why agencies in Eastern Ontario have come together to make things a little easier with the Teen Triple P: Positive Parenting Program®. Teen Triple P is designed to help parents develop the skills needed to allow their teenager to adjust to the changes and demands of adolescence. It is based on building and maintaining strong relationships through five main principles:

1. Creating a safe and interesting environment 2. Ensuring a positive learning environment 3. Using assertive discipline 4. Having realistic expectations 5. Taking care of yourself as a parent

Much of a teen’s behaviour is driven by a fast-paced social, emotional and physically demanding time. Teen Triple P provides parents with current and reliable information on the growth and development of teens by helping them to respond to the needs and behaviours of their teenagers and understanding if extra help is needed. There is no one right way to parent a teen, but Triple P can offer information, support and practical answers for your everyday parenting concerns. You can start your Triple P experience today by registering for our upcoming events and information sessions at www.MYtripleP.ca, or by calling 1 844 362-8593.
