day will be dissolved with a fervent heat. How is it with your life? The Bible again today asks that penetrat ing question of old, “What shall it prof it a man if he gain the whole world and lose his own soul?”

WHAT IS A FATHER? A father is a creature who is forced to endure childhood without an anes thetic. He grows when he feels good and laughs loud when scared half to death. A father never feels worthy of the devotion in a childs eye. He is never quite the hero his daughter thinks, never quite the man his son believes him to be, and this worries him — some times. So he works too hard to try to smooth the rough places in the road for those of his oum who will follow him. A father gets very angry when the school grades aren’t as good as he thinks they should be, so he scolds his son—though he knows it’s the teachers fault. A father gives his daughter away to another man who is not nearly good enough—so he can have grandchildren who are smarter than anybody’s. Quite perceptive thoughts, aren’t they? Yet the greatest thing about a father is that which he can do spiritually for his family. It’s not earning money, not keeping the yard manicured, but rather setting a good example for his children and serving as a positive testimony to his neighbors. Only a father who has dedicated his life in devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ will ever have his children rise up and call him blessed. ■This is truly a rich man. “But if any provide not for his own, and especially for his own household, he is worse than an infidel and hath denied the faith.”

Are you the man that your mother wished and prayed you would be?

RELIGIOUS POLLS The big elections are a little more than four months away with more and more predictions being made on the out come. One of the most popular pastimes here in America seems to be the taking of polls. Recently Louis Harris & As sociates took a cross-section population survey in the United States and came up with the information that 5U% of the people attend church as regularly as once a week. As many as 50% say grace before meals. An overwhelming 83% give regularly to a religious cause, while a total of 97% professed to be lieve in God (1% were Atheists, 2% Agnostics); .72% of the people claimed faith in a life after death. As could be expected, pollsters found that women attended services more often than men, with a ratio of about 6 to U- Such sta tistics are interesting because they re veal that this country is made up of people who have a lot of religious ideals. We have to remember, however, that the term “religious" and Chris tianity are not synonymous in any sense. Christianity in its strictest sense includes men and women who have, by faith, received Jesus Christ as Saviour. Faith in the Lord is completely and un alterably dogmatic. There is no other name under heaven given among men whereby man must be saved . God’s only Son could testify to an often religious and yet Christ-rejecting world, “1 am the way, the truth, and the life. No man cometh unto the Father but by me!” As far as your outlook on life is con cerned, don't forget that what we see de pends mainly on what we look for.

Prayer doesn't need proof. It needs practice.

PRESIDENT FOR A DAY In a day of politics, it’s sometimes hard to understand why anyone would want to be President of the U.S.A., even for a day. Back across the years, there was one man who had just that experience. For 2U hours, he was Presi dent of the United States. Zachary Taylor had refused to be inaugurated on the day set because it was Sunday. Friends pleaded vainly for the devoutly religious Taylor to change his mind. The Constitution wouldn’t allow James
