which causes it to glow until the power is exhausted. Quite an elaborate at tempt to imitate what a firefly simply does naturally by God’s creation! The Lord placed the bug’s energy mysteri ously within its tiny body. This readily reminds us of a vital spiritual truth. The believer, who by faith has received Jesus Christ as Saviour, has such di vine power unthin him too. Through the indwelling presence of God’s Holy Spirit, the Christian is empowered for service. Keep in mind, though, that a firefly can emit only one kind of light. A Christian, on the other hand, can shine forth with the brilliance of God’s love and grace unto the world’s dark est night of sin. So, let us hold forth the Word of Life remembering that we are the sons of God in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation. CHRISTIAN EDUCATION We can never overestimate the im portance and significance of Christian education. Do you know that a child spends approximately 5U0 hours in the public school room from kindergarten on through just the second grade? That’s 5b0 hours for those three grades. Now to get just this much instruction through the Sunday School, a child would have to attend every single Lord’s Day for the next twenty years. That’s right; every single Sunday to the age of 20 in order to have the com parable education of a second grader. Suppose a child began attending Sun day School at the age of three. When he was 23 years old, he would have the equivalent of a second-grade Chris tian education. Now, by the time a person is 23, he’s probably completed his education, maybe selected his life’s companion, and perhaps entered into business and started a family. It’s rather sobering to realize that most Christians are making major decisions of life based upon much less than a second grade Biblical education. This is why we stress the importance of Christian education at Biola College, in Phoenix Cur Arizona Bible College, and also, Talbot Theological Seminary. To belittle is to be little.

staying to worship God. A fter all, we could look at the beautiful out-of-doors. “By going home early, it was the same as telling the children that it’s not necessary to stay for preaching in order to be a good church member. I was saying that one hour a week is all God needs of our time. “I told my unsaved friend that I wasn’t interested in his finding Christ as his Saviour. I knew that he might never be saved if he didn’t attend church services, but I wasn’t particu larly concerned, so I went home. “Yes, and by going home, it was as if I had told Christ I had heard enough of Him for one day. I didn’t care to listen to Him any more. I didn’t care to have my pastor lift up Christ to a lost world. Frankly, I didn’t care about having fellowship with my Saviour, so I went home.” Those are rather shocking thoughts, at least put that way. May God not hear or see us live as if they were true in our lives. Scripture enjoins us not to forsake the assembling of'ourselves together with other believers and so muph the more this is needed, as we see the day of Christ’s return fast ap proaching. . If a man's so-called faith isn't strong enough to take him to church, then it is doubtful that it'll ever take him to Heaven. GOD’S DIVINE LIGHT With even warmer weather on the way, there are some areas of the coun try where fascinating fireflies will wink their amazing glow across the hot evening skies. It’s interesting to real ize that with all of man’s modem sci entific genius he still hasn’t been able to reproduce the luminescence of this small creature. Oh, they’re trying, to be sure. One of our national news maga zines recently told of a new experi ment known as injection electro-lumi nescence. Here’s what’s done to dupli cate a firefly. A piece of phosphorous material is coated with an aluminum oxide film. This is attached to a gold film electrode. It is then placed on a slide and hooked up to a small battery
