The Science Behind ProKlean Restore

ProKlean (CIO 2 ) History & Info

Familiar Used for public water purification since the 1940s. Fragrance-free. No harmful residue.

Effective Breaks down the cell

membrane(Cytoplasm) of pathogens. Destroys bacteria, germs, viruses, mold, fungi, and all odor molecules. Size Matters ClO2 is a very small molecule. It can penetrate into areas that other molecules cannot reach.

Molecule Features Small size ideal for hard-to-reach areas. No wipe or rinse required. Contains no phosphates. Does not chlorinate. No carcinogens or poisonous residuals.

CIO 2 Approved Uses & Industries

Chlorine Dioxide RED

CIO 2 is an Oxidizer… What’s That?

• What is Oxidation? • How Does it Work? • Oxidation for Odor & Pathogen Control • Selective Oxidation

Oxidation = Redox Reaction

Redox Reaction: A chemical reaction that involves the transfer of electrons between molecules and/or atoms.

Red = Reduction Ox = Oxidation LEO the lion goes GER

Selective Oxidation & Higher Oxidation Capacity • CIO 2 has lower oxidation strength, it is more selective in its reactions. • CIO 2 has an oxidation number of +4. For this reason it accepts 5 electrons when reduced to chloride ion which has a -1 oxidation state. • By way of comparison, CIO 2 contains more than 2.5 times the oxidation capacity.

DEODORIZATION SYSTEM

The Most Effective Solution

The Science of Odor Perception

What is an odor and the sense of smell?

• A fragrance in the air, which is produced by one or more volatized chemical components. • Volatile odors that are smelt are water soluble. The sense of smell lets us know if the odor is pleasant or not. • The sense of smell is our main defense to protect us from potentially harmful substances and an environment. • If it smells, it’s chemistry.

The Five Senses

• Taste is where taste buds provide signals to the brain, letting us know if what we are eating is good or bad.

• Hearing is the second sense, where sound enters the ear canal, sending sound waves to the brain.

• Smell is the third sense, where olfactory nerves can detect more than 1 trillion senses.

• Touch is the fourth sense humans develop, including skin receptors communicating with the brain.

• Sight is the fifth sense, which brings light into the brain.t

What Sensory Thoughts Come to Your Mind?

When do Odors Become a Problem?

Odor Control Methods of the Past Current Products on the Market: • Masking Agents – Examples: Glade, Febreze, Fogging Agents. These work like a perfume; odors come back as they are not eliminated. • Precipitators/Encapsulation – Examples: Freshwave, Nobles ION – Surround odor molecule using static electricity, drops to the floor. Odors come back, incomplete coverage, and is expensive. • Enzymes – Bacteria eat odor molecules/source material and typically convert to H2O. Extremely slow, not efficient, temperature sensitive, extremely expensive, and can’t ship during winter. • Ozone Generator – Oxidizer that can be very effective. Known carcinogen – very caustic, respiratory irritant, deteriorates and damages surfaces, building materials, rubber, latex. Ozone smell lingers. Can’t ship to California. • Peroxide Towers – Can be effective, hydrogen peroxide but are used in conjunction with Ozone generators. Treated spaces will smell like Ozone. Very time consuming and expensive. • Ionizer – Charged particle de-activates odor molecule, ozone is byproduct, very ineffective. Can’t ship to California. • Hydroxyl Generators – Extremely slow, but safe. Uses hydrogen molecules. Need to be used in high humidity environments like water damage. Not 100% effective can take weeks to mitigate the issue. • Carbon Filtration – Extremely slow but safe. Filters are expensive. Does not eliminate the source.

Why CIO 2 ClO 2 is a very small molecule, e.g., it can penetrate very small areas.

ClO 2 Chlorine Dioxide • 720 min half-life • 124 picometers OH 2 Hydroxyl • 9-10 seconds • 140 picometers O 3 Ozone • 20 mins • 225 picometers
