City of East Point Planning and Community Development Department Permits and Building Inspections Divisions
This notice provides guidance to residents and contractors regarding emergency repair work and building permit requirements under the City’s adopted building codes. Emergency Repair Work and Building Permit Guidance Under the City’s adopted building codes (including the International Building Code and International Residential Code), emergency repairs that are necessary to safeguard life, health, or property may be initiated without first obtaining a building permit. Per Section 105.2.1 – Emergency Repairs of the IBC/IRC, where work must be performed in an emergency situation, a permit application is not required prior to beginning emergency work; however, the appropriate permit must be applied for within the next business day after the emergency conditions have been addressed.
All emergency repairs remain subject to inspection and must comply with all applicable building code requirements.
