Impact Donor Report 2025

“Because I boarded, Dulwich wasn’t just a school — it was home. My Housemasters treated me like family, and that made all the difference.” Leandro Gough OA (17-22)

We caught up with Leandro, our Bursary Ambassador for the 2025 Bursary Appeal, who has just completed his BSc in Environment and Development from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Now beginning his career in finance, Leandro reflects on how his time at Dulwich helped lay the foundations for the confidence and sense of purpose he brings to this next chapter. “I was delighted to share my story in the 2025 Bursary Appeal having received a full bursary to attend Dulwich College, boarding there from 2017 to 2022 - first in Orchard House, then Blew House. What stays with me most is the deep connection I built with the staff. I can instantly name four teachers who I still think of as mentors. They didn't just care about how I was doing academically - they saw the full picture. My Housemasters encouraged me to get involved in sport, even though I was already focused on my studies, and I’m so glad they did. Dulwich really pushed me to excel in the classroom but also gave me the independence and space to develop a personality beyond it. Sports taught me how to work with all kinds of people. Being part of a team and attending societies helped me branch out and build confidence socially. That exposure to people with different backgrounds and interests is something I think sets Dulwich apart. English was my favourite subject. My teacher had a drama background and made lessons genuinely exciting. He saw how much I enjoyed the subject and would set me extra reading just for fun. It’s that kind of attention to detail that makes Dulwich different. Dulwich College wasn’t just a place where I studied; it was where I lived for five years. I found a real support system in my Housemasters, Mr Brown and Mr Davidson. They looked after me in ways I’ll never forget – inviting me to dinners, movie nights, and making me feel part of their families. I continue to seek their advice and they act as mentors even now. The biggest impact Dulwich had on me was giving me a strong foundation – a solid work ethic, independence, and a sense of responsibility. The bursary I received allowed me to access all of this. It gave me the tools to succeed, but also the space to become my own person. These holistic lessons are now paying dividends in my career and leading a fulfilling life.” Today, as Leandro steps confidently into his professional journey, his story stands as a testament to what a Dulwich education makes possible – an experience that continues to shape and strengthen those who receive the gift of opportunity.
