Performance Management Reviews All performance reviews are based on your demonstration of the Village’s core values, your goals, technical competencies and, for certain positions, leadership attributes. You will be evaluated based on how well you perform your job according to established criteria for technical and interpersonal skills from July through June each year. Merit increases will be effective each year in the pay period which includes October 1st. New employees hired before January 1st will receive a performance review and a prorated increase based on the month they were hired. Employees hired after January 1st will not receive a performance review, but will receive an automatic prorated increase based on their hire date and the budgeted merit increase. The prorated increase will be calculated by taking the number of months between the month of hire until June and divide that number by 12 (the number of months in a full review period). The result is the adjustment factor. The adjustment factor is then multiplied by the percentage increase amount to get the prorated increase. Rest Periods The ability to allow employees breaks or rest periods is determined by each department based on their workload and work environment. Breaks may not be accumulated, nor may they be taken within an hour of arrival at or departure from work or added to a meal period. As break time is a paid rest period, your supervisor will advise you if and when breaks may be taken. Meal Periods Employees who are scheduled to work a shift of at least six hours or more may take a meal break of 30 minutes to one hour. However, all meal breaks must be at least 30 minutes of uninterrupted and unpaid time. Meal periods shall be established by your supervisor and may change to conform to work schedules or business needs. Time worked in lieu of meal periods must be approved by the supervisor. Non-exempt employees may not eat at their workstations to ensure compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act. Employees must notify their supervisors if they miss their meal periods or are unable to take a full 30-minute meal break due to work issues. Pay Corrections If there is an error in your pay, please report it immediately to your supervisor, who will then notify the Financial Services Department as soon as possible. As a general rule, any resulting corrections will be reflected on the next paycheck. Exceptions to this practice must be approved by the Financial Services Director. Pay Advances The VOP does not permit advances against future pay for hours not yet worked or against unaccrued vacation.
