Employees wishing to resign in good standing should submit appropriate advance written notice. Employees who do not give the requested notice will forfeit any accrued and unused vacation benefits and may be ineligible for rehire. Sick time taken during the notice period will be unpaid, and no vacation time may be taken during the notice period, even if previously requested and approved. Exceptions need to be approved by the Village Manager. The NC Retirement System recommends starting the retirement process at least 120 days prior to your retirement date to receive your first payment timely. Return of Property At the time of termination, whether voluntary or involuntary, the immediate supervisor will request and document the return of all VOP property, including but not limited to, ID card, keys, cell phone, P-card, uniforms, tools, supplies, equipment, and any other items assigned for use in the performance of your job assignment. Final Paycheck Employees who terminate their employment will receive a final paycheck which represents payment for all hours worked in the last pay period, payment for any unused vacation time, if eligible, payment for unused sick time, if eligible, holiday pay for shift employees, and any retirement gifts if eligible. The final pay may be reduced to provide for repayment of authorized debts (e.g., education reimbursements, relocation expenses) and/or unreturned property (e.g., uniforms) as allowed by law. Exit Interviews To better understand employee turnover, an exit interview may be conducted during your final days of employment. An exit survey will also be sent to you via email or mail so that you can provide valuable feedback about your experience while working for the VOP.
