Correcting errors relating to periods covered by the VAT Payments Deferral Scheme 20 January 2021 HMRC has advised that, where an error has been identified on a VAT return that relates to a period covered by the VAT Payments Deferral Scheme, a VAT652 form should be sent to HMRC as soon as possible. There is further information surrounding correcting errors on VAT returns available at GOV.UK. Once the form is submitted, a Statement of Account should be provided, confirming what the balance is, and if any additional payments are due. HMRC can be contacted prior to the end of January 2021 to defer these additional payments.
The following options are available:
• The deferred VAT can be paid in full, on or before 31 March 2021 • The VAT Deferral New Payment Scheme can be opted into when it launches in early 2021. Further information relating to the scheme will be published shortly • HMRC can be contacted in situations where additional help is needed in order to pay

New Director General appointed at HMRC 21 January 2021
HMRC has announced that the new Director General for its Customer Service Group will be Myrtle Lloyd, who was appointed following an external recruitment process, and approval from Prime Minister, Boris Johnson.
Ms. Llloyd is currently the Chief Operating Officer at Her Majesty’s Passport Office, and also the Registrar General for England and Wales. Additionally, Ms. Lloyd is the Head of Profession at the Home Office for operational delivery.
Ms. Lloyd will join HMRC on 1 March 2021, and will be based in Liverpool.
Angela MacDonald, Deputy Chief Executive and Second Permanent Secretary, said:
“I’m delighted that Myrtle will be joining us to lead the Customer Service Group, bringing with her a wealth of experience and expertise. 2021 will no doubt continue to bring many challenges to the way we work and deliver as an organisation, and Myrtle is very well-placed to help us rise to those challenges. I’d like to thank Karl Khan for his tenure as interim Director General, and his contribution to the Executive Board over the past 5 months.”
Myrtle Lloyd commented:
“I’m really looking forward to joining colleagues in HMRC and taking on the leadership of Customer Service Group. HMRC has delivered brilliantly during the pandemic, and it will be a privilege to experience that professionalism and excellence first hand. I also look forward to meeting new colleagues on the Executive Committee and joining Angela and Jim in leading the department through the next chapter of HMRC’s story.”
