5. Heavenly Joy “In thy presence is fulness of joy” (Psa. 16:11). “A thing of beauty is a joy For ever,” sang a singer; But earthly beauty oft may cloy, And ne’er can be a bringer Of satisfaction, nor can bless With peace that still increaseth, And pow’r it never can possess For joy that never ceaseth. Though here be beauty seen on earth, Above is its pure essence, For there true loveliness hath birth; And in God’s holy presence, Fullness of joy alone is found At His right hand who reigneth, Pleasures for evermore abound, And beauty that remaineth. —E. K. 6, Receiving the Impossible “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not” (Jer. 33:3).

1. Looking ior the Answer “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened” (Matt. 7:7, 8). In this gracious word of promise, our Lord Jesus six times emphasizes the fact that we are to look for an answer to our prayer. The answer is the most important part of the prayer fellowship with God. Praying is our part. All true prayer is the work of the Holy Spirit within us, working through us. But we are working with Him and have a part in it. The answer to prayer is God’s work.—S. M. Miller. 2. The Greatness of His Power “The exceeding greatness of His power to us-ward who believe” (Eph. 1:19). Try to think of the power which was necessary to raise Christ from the tomb. The Roman soldiers stood on sentry by the sealed sepulcher. The hosts’ of hell stood guard to imprison the Christ of God. in the rock-hewn tomb. But . . . the mighty power of God broke the seal, removed the stone, scattered the soldiers and the demons, and out came the Son of God with resurrection life! And, says the apostle, that power is “to us-ward.” —A London Journalist. 3 . A Permanent Abode “He shall give you another Comfort er, that he may abide with you for ever” (John 14:16). The divine Paraclete has come to stay. He seals the heart “unto the day of redemption.” He may be grieved, and we may lose the sense of His approval, but He will never leave the heart in which He has taken up His abode. Let us rejoice in this fact, and in the con sciousness that Christ’s other self deigns to transform our unworthy hearts into His holy temple. —J. Oswald Sanders. Sinking Times “Beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me” .(Matt. 14:30). Sinking times are praying times with the Lord’s servants. Peter neglected prayer at starting upon his venturous journey, but when he began to sink, his danger made him a suppliant, and his cry, though late, was not too late. . . . Are we nearly engulfed by the bois terous waves of affliction? Let us then lift up our souls to our Saviour, and. we may rest assured that He will not suffer us to perish. —Charles Haddon Spurgeon. 4.
