The Lord is never .weary, yet the An cient of Days; you have to renew your strength as an eagle to bear fruit in old age. The source of real’ strength is in the sense of the Lord’s being gracious.—J. N; Darby. The Searching Eyes “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts” (Psa. 139:23).^ God’s- eyes are as “a flame of fire.” If we are to be transformed, those flam ing eyes may search our business and our home life; they may search our library, our habits. They may reveal what is wrong in our lives. There has often to be the searching of those flam ing eyes of fire before there can be the enduement with power. Oh, what a revelation! Are we prepared . for the searching now ?—W. W. Martin. 10. .The Light and the Blood “And, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne. And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone” (Rev. 4:2, 3). If the glorious and eternally blessed Occupant of that throne had appeared only as the jasper stone—the clear, un sullied crystal-!-no created being could have stood before Him, but because the blood-red rays of the sardine blend with the light o f : the jasper, the worst of Sinners may have a footing there. . For in the light nothing can- be hidden, yet all is covered by the blood—it is the perfect atonement, equal in its efficacy to the full shining of the light. —J. T. Mawsoii. 11. The Spirit-Born “That which is horn of the. flesh la flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit” (John 3:6). Like produces like. To be born of the Spirit is to have a new life imparted by the Spirit. This new life- will be like that which produces it. Every one who is born of God will have some features of God’s likeness. He will love the things that God loves and hate the things that God hates. He -will be like God in holiness, in unselfishness, in gentleness, in patience, in forgiveness, in truthfulness, in love.—J. R. Miller. 12. ’ Taking the Helm “Keep thy heart with all diligence’’ (Prov. 4:23). We must begin with the heart. The heart is not the whole of the man. The helm is not the whole of the ship; but give me the helm, and the whole ship is under my control. You are God’s child. You have received Sod’s unspeak able gift. Now God says to you; “Give me thine heart” ; and when you respond, He takes the helm. Now He will steer you through life.—Evan H. Hopkins. " 9.

Faith honors God by counting upon His infinite resources. When the favor ite of Alexander asked him for some thing worth almost a kingdom, the Em peror replied, “It may be too much for Parmento to ask, but it is not too much for Alexander to give.” “Pray for the impossible,” may seem too bold and startling, and yet it is not bolder than the Master’s words, “All things are possible to him that believeth.” —A. B. Simpson. 7. ■ Two Outlooks “ Our conversation [citizenship] is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour” (Phil. 3:20). As we look oüt upon the situation before us today, the difference between the world’s view of modern conditions and the church’s view of modern con ditions is just this: The world is look ing out and seeing its civilization crumble in a night; and the church, looking with the eye of faith right up through the clouds, sees Christ crowned, and knows that, somewhere, somehow, sometime, Christ will make all things new.—L. G. Buchanan. Waiting Pilgrims “They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength” (Isa. 40:31). We should ^be in the spirit of waiting pilgrims, not weary ones. You must not |call yourself old as if you were tired. 8.
