BENJIWALTERS

I wouldn’t want you to think this is my fault.

In ‘Stockwell’, I explore the domestic concept of a failing marriage within the context of the fear brought about through 21st century terrorism; Murakami and Carver were principal sources of inspiration. I anticipate the reader being more compassionate towards Mark than to his wife, especially before the death of their child is revealed, because it appears that Mark’s wife is judge- mental and unloving; however, one might consider that because of Mark’s unreliability as a narrator, he cannot be trusted to present a rational picture. That the open- ing page of the story is contained makes Mark’s furious outburst all the more shocking when it comes.
