MONTHLY NATUREWORKSHOPS Join the Natural Resources team for their monthly nature workshops at the Delores Fenwick Nature Center! These workshops will cover a variety of nature- based and natural resources topics. Come early to take a tour of the nature center. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of the month and classes are from 7—8 p.m. Pre-registration is required to attend this program. $5 16+ years DFNC Thur., Jan. 27, 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Thur., Feb. 24, 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Thur., Mar. 24, 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Thur., April 28, 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Thur., May 26, 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. FAMILY CAMPING EXPERIENCE Nothing beats a night under the stars! Family Camping Experience is the perfect first overnight adventure for families looking to get into camping. Set at Independence Park, this program gives you an opportunity to “rough it” without losing all your creature comforts. The campsite will be in a semi- lit environment with quick access to cars, running water and bathrooms. It’s a great way to learn which equipment and supplies are must haves, the best way to set up your campsite, how to Leave No Trace, and to ensure that the whole family is ready to take camping out into the wilderness! Fun outdoor activities and the staple of camping—s’mores will also be included. $15 6+ years Independence Park Fri., Apr. 22, 5:30 p.m. - Sat., Apr. 23, 8:30 a.m. LEARN-TO-FISH Got any bass? Go Fish! Set at Independence Park, Learn-to-Fish will teach participants how to get started with fishing basics and angler education. Participants will learn how to tie fishing knots, what bait to use to catch different types of fish, how to properly cast and reel in a catch, and what local fish species can be found and fished for in Pearland. We also will talk about Texas fishing laws. This program is a great way for families to spend time together and can teach children a skill that they can use and expand upon for the rest of their lives. All equipment and supplies will be provided. $10 4+ years DFNC Sat., Feb. 19, Apr. 9, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
BIRDING IN THE FIELD A birders paradise! Brazoria County is located in the Central Flyway and is among the counties with the highest bird species count in the state. Whether you’re a lifelong birder looking to hang out with a newflock or someonewho just dabbles, Birding in the Field is sure to be a great time! Join an experienced guide to explore some of Pearland’s birding hotspots. Participants will get the opportunity to see a variety of species and learn tips for identifying birds in the field. All skill levels arewelcome. $20 16+ years DFNC and SCR Nature Trail Sat., Mar. 12, 8 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.; Wed., Apr. 6, 8 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. FAMILY FUN DAYS The DFNC is turning 3 during Spring Break 2022! From March 15th to March 19th, we’ll be hosting educational mini-lessons scheduled at 10 a.m. & 2 p.m. and celebrating with outdoor games, and scavenger hunts all day long. Mar. 19, 10 a.m. & 2 p.m. CAMP PELICAN Opening Summer 2022 – CAMP PELICAN – The Pearland Environmental Learning Institute for Conservation, Adventure and Nature! These specialty, nature themed camps are designed to bring children closer to nature and foster a further love and understanding of the natural world. Each day of these week-long camps will be filled with exploration and educational lessons about Texas wildlife, habitats and more!
