IFMAT-IV Report

Task K Findings and Recommendations

K10 Finding

Recommendation ■ Presently there are not enough trained fire management qualified personnel in Indian Country. ■ Training for fire qualifications needs to be re-evaluated and ramped up to meet the demand to use managed fire on a landscape basis. ■ Cooperative inter-agency training for managed fire program should be implemented similar to TNC Indigenous burning network. ■ Cooperative burn plans need to be developed so multiple agencies can participate in prescribe burn projects.

There is a need to put managed fire back on the landscape and this takes cooperation and coordination with adjacent landowners. Training is needed and requires funding and is necessary to meet the fire management qualifications.
