Punta Cana Fun Facts …  The Punta Cana we know today is only about 45 years old. In 1969, it was just 30 square miles of undeveloped, impenetrable brush that stretched for five miles along the easternmost coast of the Dominican Republic.  The name Punta Cana was a commercial brand name for the group of investors, chosen for the fan shaped Cana palm leaves that flourish in the area. The group has now changed their name to the one-word title “ Puntacana ” due to the popularity and use of Punta Cana as a generic brand.  The Dominican Republic’s number one source of income is tourism - and Punta Cana is the country’s most important tourism region, bringing in more than a quarter of the country’s gross domestic product.  Punta Cana has recently become one of the premier golf destinations in the Caribbean.  Punta Cana has 10 different beaches, some of which have been ranked the world’s best by the European Blue Flag Organization and UNESCO.

A valid passport is required to enter the Dominican Republic . Here is a link that will take you to the website where you can apply for a passport, or to renew or replace an existing one: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports.html

Entry, Exit, and Visa Requirements

 Visas are not required for visits shorter than 30 days  All airline passengers are required to fill out an E-Ticket when entering and exiting the Dominican Republic. The QR code generated upon completion of the form can be presented at the airport on a digital device. The E-Ticket website will provide you with an opportunity to complete your entry and exit form at the same time. You will be provided with 2 QR Codes, one for entry and one for exit. The QR code must be shown to the airline ticket agent when checking in and/or going through customs. Here is a link to the website where the form can be accessed: https://eticket.migracion.gob.do/Home/ NOTE: In addition to the above requirements, proof of return from the Dominican Republic (or an onward ticket to another destination) must be shown. To make your travel experience as efficient as possible, it’s important that you review all travel requirement documents pertaining to the specific airline you will be traveling with.

Transportation In Punta Cana

Transportation to and from the airport:  Because transportation in Punta Cana is controlled by unions – and the unions operate the airport taxi service as well as public transportation, it’s suggested that you travel from the Punta Cana airport to the resort by taxi.  Transfers to/from the resort are available. Contact the resort for information regarding transfer fees and logistics.  The cost of a taxi for one-way travel between the airport and the resort is approximately $30-$35 per person. Traveling within Punta Cana area and the surrounding area: Ease of travel within Punta Cana and the surrounding area is largely dependent on where you are staying (hotel, Airbnb, etc.). The most convenient means of travel in the area is by taxi, but they can sometimes be expensive (depending on your final destination). The least expensive means of travel during your stay in the Punta Cana area is via Uber. The following DRAC members will be available to assist you with questions you have regarding transportation logistics:
