CHRISTIAN MANLINESS “ Quit you like men” (I Cor. 16:13). Unlike the lower animals, man is meant to behave and live as man made in the image of God and fashioned anew after the likeness of Christ. —I /T H E GOSPEL APPROVES SfANLINESS IN ALL THE AFFAIRS OF LIFE 1. Character is shown in even the most ordinary a n d trivial things. 2. The Christian should not fall below men of the world in what is honorable and manly but should rise above them. 3. The Christian may unbend as well as other men, but he can be pure j and reverent and kind at all tunes and make the gold en rule/ o f Christ his perpetual law. II. TRUE MANLINESS REQUIRES THA^ A MAN BE A CHRISTIAN III. THE APOSTLE ENJOINS /M A N L IN E S S IN THE CHRIS- / TIAN LIFE 1. We should be manly Christians, with manly strength and cour age. 2. We should b e stow earnest thought to make the most per fect use o f our powers for Christ. 3. We are freed by Christ from the slavery of the will to sin and Satan so that we can choose the noblest and best, as men. 4. We should learn our moral duty and do right for God. 5. Since we are made in the image o f God, capable of knowing, lov ing, and glorifying God, and granted exalted dignity, we ought to avoid all that is low and set our affection on things above. 6. Beyond all this, we are re deemed, sons of God, and Christ should be our pattern of man hood. — William Henry Green

L o n g o v e r d u e — a survey of the history and geography of all the Bible lands. Numerous books have dealt with Palestine but few have recognized that other areas—Iran, Egypt, Syria, Greece, Italy—also provided a geographical stage on which the biblical drama was enacted. Drs. Pfeiffer and Vos have brought together historical, geographical, biblical and archaeo logical material on all ten areas of the Near Eastern and Mediterranean world that might properly be called “ Bible lands.” The authors spent seven years on the plan ning and writing of this major contribution to biblical scholarship. Both have traveled exten sively in the countries about which they have written. Their work reflects a thorough knowl edge of Bible lands, archaeology and history of the Near East, and the Bible itself on which their work rests. The Wycliffe Historical Geography of Bible Lands is an invaluable reference and study tool. Every student of the Bible needs a copy. Every Christian scholar, pastor, teacher and library will welcome this significant contribution to an important area of knowledge.
