King's Business - 1967-10

“ oughts” really are. When I am con fident that my activities ir e obligations that have God’s signature on them, I can confidently expect God to give the mental and physical strength to ac complish them. (Even the sudden in terruptions and unexpected emergen cies may be a part o f HIS plan fo r my discipline, or for helping others.) When I ask God’s direction, when my inten tion is to obey, I can be sure o f His guidance. Next, I must make up my mind I WILL do what I OUGHT to do, and I’ll do it NOW! What a fierce battle! I don’t always “ feel” like tackling the “ stupid” little boring tasks that pound with such persistence. I’d rather get on with the things that really show, the things that are obvious to my family and friends. Sometimes I don’t like postponing a household task to fulfill a civic or church obligation. I must often mil to do what I don’t feel like doing if God is directing me. Usually the task itself is not nearly so tiring as my rebellion. I must remember, too, that if a job is right to do, it’s right to do it CHEERFULLY. God loves a cheerful worker as well as a cheerful giver — whether that work involves making a bed, sewing a hem, or setting the table with crystal goblets fo r a festive com pany dinner! Cheerfulness (like gloom) becomes a habit, and singing over the kitchen sink is fa r more satisfying than sighing. In an amazing way it beauti fully speeds things up, too! By Ruth Calkin ONCE IN A LIFETIME . . . All of us dream of thaf once-in-a-life- time trip. Maybe you've dreamed of Hawaii, Europe or simply Cincinnati, but our dream has always been to go to Ephe sus, Athens and, of course, the HO LY- LAND. Wonder of wonders, we are about to realize that dream, and our surpriae and delight is just abounding. Biola's marvelous tour facilities, called Unusual Tours, has asked Dick and me to be tour leaders for a 3-week trip in July, 1968. This tour is the very trip we have dreamed of and perhaps there is a chance of your coming with ua. Oh, I am aware of the investment of time and money, but I am also very much aware of the new dimension this kind of trip gives to a life. How can you ever complain about your circumstances in life after you have seen the prison cell and chains Paul wore as he talked about "being content in what ever state I am?" How can you ever re gard prayer as a last resort instead of a continual thing after you have walked in the Garden of Gethsemane? How can you ever be calloused to the needs of others after you have looked over the city of Jerusalem and remembered the weeping of our Lord? Should you want to know more about this wonderful tour, simply write to me, Joyce Landorf, in care of UNUSUAL TOURS, INC., La Mirada, California 90638, Dept. K. We will send you our FREE guideline fact sheet. Remember, once in a lifetime. . . .
