Accommodation The Shire of Murray is experiencing a lack of diversity in accommodation types across the Shire. Of note, there is a lack of housing for permanent residents in Dwellingup and a lack of quality short stay accommodation options in both Dwellingup and Pinjarra, with existing businesses near capacity and accommodation offerings not catering for the medium to higher end market. The Shire of Boddington significant accommodation challenges across short term accommodation that is currently insufficient to meet tourism demands. Multi-day events are increasing in numbers and frequency, and there are no vacancies during these events. The caravan park is always booked out (except for winter), regardless of events and the Motel is usually booked through the weekends. The caravan park is generally booked out on weekends even when there are no events – except for winter. A general housing shortage is also evident in the rental market. There are very few rentals available in Boddington and this impacts employment opportunities in the area, as there is nothing available. Modular housing estates operated under the Caravan and Camping Act are seen as critical to meeting the growth in tourism and worker rental demand due to their capacity to be delivered quickly and to be operated by industry to cater for the needs of workers and tourists. Government is working with modular housing providers to adapt existing legislation and to deliver timely and affordable solutions. The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale sees opportunity for the modular approach to cater nature-based tourism accommodation options which pose a soft impact on the environment through modular (brought to site) options that meet a tourism need. With the intent to establish a trails town with trail experiences ranging from 1 to 3 days, having these modular homes as a base would tick a lot of economic and social objectives.
