Humanities at The Lakes
SECONDARY HUMANITIES
Education across the Humanities subjects at The Lakes offer students a vast array of knowledge and skills while presenting them with a range of academic challenges. For each of our Year 7 to 9 Humanities subjects, students explore four academic disciplines: History, Geography, Business and Economics, and Civics and Citizenship. At Year 10, students are offered the opportunity to undertake Humanities electives encompassing either History, Business or Legal Studies. Currently The Lakes offer each of these subjects at VCE for Years 11 and 12. The following accounts are from students currently undertaking VCE Business Management, VCE Legal Studies and VCE History. VCE History – Units 1 & 2 History at The Lakes has been a surprisingly delightful experience. We’ve covered extensively the various wars in the last hundred years and the rise of terrorism. Classes are engaging and our learning has been significantly aided by our teacher's vast knowledge of Modern History, his passionate attitude to teaching has made History the one subject I look forward to the most and I always enjoy participating in the discussions we all have as a class. Absolutely couldn’t recommend it anymore! – Bailey
VCE Business Management – Units 1 & 2 Business Management has been one of the most rewarding subjects in my VCE studies. I love how it provides practical learning, using real - world examples of businesses in action. It’s fascinating to see how companies evolve with new products, services, and innovations, making the subject feel dynamic and relevant. There's always something new to learn. However, Business Management is often misunderstood. People think it's easy based on the questions, but in reality, it's quite complex. It requires deep analysis of management strategies and business decisions and demands significant effort to grasp. Staying updated with current trends is essential, making it both challenging and rewarding. Despite the hard work, it equips you with practical skills that are invaluable in today’s fast - paced business world. – Ayaan VCE Legal Studies – Units 1 & 2 Legal Studies has rapidly emerged as one of my most intriguing subjects in VCE. The topic consistently encourages my thought process through its intricate legal cases and engaging examples. I appreciate how it delves into the complexities of the legal system, providing valuable perspectives on justice, rights, and legislation. As I aim to pursue a career in Law, Legal Studies is very significant to me, as it helps me establish solid groundwork for my future profession.
Nevertheless, Legal Studies does face its own difficulties. The topic necessitates a thorough comprehension of legal concepts and how they are applied in practical scenarios. It requires significant mental concentration to stay on top of the intricate case studies and legal analyses. However, what I find most rewarding is the continuous mental stimulation and the sense that every case analysis brings me nearer to my aspiration of becoming a lawyer. – Ayaan Our Humanities subjects from junior to senior secondary, offer students a dynamic and enriching educational experience. Each subject provides a unique set of tools and insights, preparing students for various career paths and fostering a well - rounded perspective of the world, and them as citizens. The practical skills gained in business, the analytical rigor of legal studies, the narrative richness of history, and the interpretative depth of junior humanities combine to create a comprehensive and exciting learning journey for students at The Lakes.
