LEARNER COACH GROUPS

This year, our students participated in some amazing events including: Youth Leaders Conference: Our Secondary College Captains and several members of our SRC and Peer Support Team attended the YLAA Primary & Secondary Youth Leadership Conferences at the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre. They were joined by over 1,200 student leaders from nearly 100 schools across Victoria. It was a fantastic opportunity to meet and network with other like - minded young people.

businesses from scratch; and, inspiring young people who have overcome homelessness and adversity to become leaders in their community. International Women’s Day Lunch: Four of our amazing young women were invited by our local State Member of Parliament, the Hon. Lily D’Ambrosio to attend an International Women’s Day lunch at Parliament House. Students discussed important community topics and had the opportunity to share their views on various topics as well. They were also extremely fortunate to have met with the Hon. Jacinta Allan, Premier of Victoria and Leader of the Victorian Labor Party. Y Lead conference: Some of our Year 9 student leaders attended the Y Lead conference where they worked with other Year 9 leaders from across the State to develop their leadership and community engagement skills. Victoria Police: The Police attended our College and conducted a session on community awareness with our Year 9 & 11 students. This was a very engaging and informative session that all students enjoyed.

This year students from 7 - 10 have been reviewing and analysing their academic data with their Learner Coaches. They have also been setting and reviewing academic and wellbeing goals every Term, which has enabled students to draw greater focus to their academic and wellbeing growth and achievements. During Learner Coach sessions, students had the opportunity to complete a passion project which provided them with an avenue to learn about something of their choice. Also, a strong focus on wellbeing during Learner Coach time has enabled students to take part in a mental fitness challenge focused on gratitude, mindfulness, connections, character strengths and purpose. Our 2024 Attitudes to School Survey results and Discovery Interview results have indicated that Learner Coaches have significantly benefited our students and enhanced connections and engagement at school.

Our leaders were enthralled by some incredible guest speakers including ex - AFL footballer and current Western Jets Coach, Trent Dennis - Lane; young entrepreneurs who have started
