DE Mit über 200 Projekten prägte Geoffrey Bawa (1919–2003) die Architektur im postkolonialen Sri Lanka. Seine Arbeiten – darunter Hotels, Wohnhäuser, Schulen, Fabriken, Bürogebäude, öffentliche Gebäude und das neue Parlamentsgebäude – inspirieren bis heute Architekten weltweit. Es ist die erste große Wanderausstellung über Geoffrey Bawas Werk. Geprägt von einer tiefen Sensibilität für Ort und Kontext, arbeitete Bawa eng mit Handwerkern und lokalen Industrien zusammen und schöpf- te dabei aus dem Wissen verschiedener Kulturen und Regionen. Die Ausstellung beleuchtet wichtige Aspekte seines Schaffens, wie kreative Zusammenarbeit und ökologisches Engagement, und stellt seine Arbeit in den Kontext des postkolonialen Sri Lanka. Mit Zeichnungen, Möbeln, persönlichen Gegenständen, Fotografien und Videos bietet sie einen umfassenden Einblick in Bawas Architektur und ihren einzigartigen Platz in der Kulturlandschaft Sri Lankas. EN With over 200 projects, Geoffrey Bawa (1919–2003) defined architecture in postcolonial Sri Lanka. His work – ranging from hotels, houses, schools, and factories to offices, public buildings, and the new parliament – continues to inspire architects worldwide. It is the first traveling exhibition about Geoffrey Bawas work. Shaped by a deep sensitivity to place and context, Bawa’s worked closely with craftspeople and local industries, drawing on knowledge from different cultures, and geographies. Arranged thematically, the exhibition highlights key aspects of his practice, such as creative collabo- ration and ecological engagement, while contextualising his work within postcolonial Sri Lanka. Featuring drawings, furniture, personal objects, photographs, and video, it offers a rich insight into Bawa’s architecture and its unique place in Sri Lanka’s cultural landscape. Son œuvre, qui va des hôtels, maisons, écoles et usines aux bureaux, bâtiments publics et au nouveau parlement, continue d’inspirer les architectes du monde entier. Il s’agit de la première grande exposition itinérante consacrée à l’œuvre de Geoffrey Bawa. Marqué par une profonde sensibilité au lieu et au contexte, Bawa a travaillé en étroite collaboration avec des artisans et des industries locales, s’inspirant des connaissances issues de différentes cultures et géographies. Orga- nisée par thèmes, l’exposition met en lumière les aspects clés de sa pratique, tels que la collaboration créative et l’engagement écologique, tout en contextualisant son œuvre dans le Sri Lanka postcolo- nial.
