2023 HCPL SUMMER READING GUIDE

IMPORTANCE OF SUMMER READING:

The Henderson County Public Library wants everyone to develop a life-long love of learning! During summer break, children experience what is often referred to as “the summer slide.” This phenomenon happens when students do not engage in educational activities during the summer and experience significant learning loss. Participating in our Summer Reading Program provides a free and accessible way to encourage students to keep their minds sharp and prevent this loss while also connecting with friends in their community! We also encourage parents to participate in our Summer Reading Program alongside their children! When children see their parents or guardians reading, it encourages them to pick up a book as well! We are challenging all Summer Reading participants to read 300 minutes this summer! Those who meet this goal will earn a limited-edition summer reading book bag and a book of their choice! You’ll also be eligible to earn a ticket for the grand prize drawings.
