TENNIS COMMITTEE – REPORT TO THE BOARD January 2021

Jan 13, 2021

We made it to the new year. What a challenge it has been – Welcome 2021!

We are happy to have made some progress towards some new tennis activity over the last few weeks. Our planning will come to fruition later this month as we begin a weekly internal doubles league on January 22nd, and a mixed doubles ladder on January 24th. We have four teams participating in the league and 12 teams in the ladder, along with several subs for each.

Men ’ s and ladies Top Gun events also begin this month and will run for 7 or 8 weeks.

Our regular social tennis events, mixers, and fundraising continues to be put on hold.

The changes we made to Hold My Court are going well. New users have been trickling in and players are getting more dedicated to using this system. A few glitches were reported, but they were not brought to our attention when they happened. We are hoping it was simply user error but have asked for anomalies to be reported to us when they occur so that we may follow up with the program developer. We held our second Zoom meeting on January 2 nd . All committee members joined in along with several participants. Don Renoe also joined us this month and introduced Kathy McCune who has been assigned our new board liaison. A big thank you to Don for helping us out these past few years. We appreciate your time Don, not only the time you volunteered to our committee and tennis issues, but your dedication to our ORPS community. Thank you! There are several outstanding maintenance issues that we are looking forward to having Byron address. Andy will be meeting with Byron in person this week to go over what needs doing. We happily received a commitment from an owner to volunteer for a role on our committee next season. There are still two committee positions opening in April that need to be filled. For Canadians, a new travel consideration has arisen. The Canadian government made recent changes for people travelling to Canada. It is now mandatory to present a negative Covid test result prior to boarding a flight to Canada. The test must be taken within 72 hours of your scheduled departure and does not negate the full mandatory 14-day quarantine upon arrival. The Committee is aware of the increased challenge of Covid with an influx of people at ORPS this month. We have encouraged everyone to follow the guidelines of the California Department of Public Health, and to be conscious of the risk travel can present. We continue to remind everyone to follow covid protocol. Following protocol is a personal responsibility that not only helps to keep you safe, but it also demonstrates respect and concern for others.

We look forward with hope, to a happy and healthy winter at ORPS.

Play safe – Stay safe!
