were, and the hollow of his thigh was put out o f joint as he wrestled with him, yet, saith he, “I will not let thee go except thou bless me.” Get thy will tipped with heavenly grace, and resolution against all discouragements; then thou goest full speed for heaven. But if thou falter in thy will, and be not found there, thou wilt run hobbling and halting all the way thou runnest, and also, to be sure, thou wilt fall short at last. The Lord give thee a will and courage.— John Bunyan. The experiences of Job are nothing less than the expression of a divine wisdom which is infallible. God makes no mistake in the discipline of His people’s lives. When He puts the gold into the furnace, it is not that it should be consumed, but refined. When He lays a burden on His child, it is to make him so realize his need o f supporting strength that he will betake him to the sanctuary. Far from disprov ing His care; Job’s trials are in reality proof of God’s interest. Hence their dura tion is already fixed. Not for an hour be yond what is needed will the pressure of sorrow and perplexity be imposed. All His purposes are moral and spiritual; and, when these are effected, the Great Crafts man changes His tools. Did we always reckon upon God’s presence—even when we cannot realize Him.—how many mis take^ steps should we avoid! Nor would it.be hard to relinquish our preconceived plans in favor of His will. Thus should we reach to something of the height of the ideal life. Can it be that we are not willing to pay the price o f His companion ship? It is certain that our fitful minds must be brought into entire subjection to His perfect knowledge if we are to walk together.— J. Stuart Holden. Our lives are too fragmentary, too in complete, for a single life crisis. We have been tested. We shall be tested again. Cer tain I am that we shall be if we keep close to our Lord. For the meaning of all His love dawning upon us must open our eyes to the divine possibilities that He sees hid den within us. If we are only that which we are too often content to be, then there is no explanation for the Gospel. Calmly consider all that has been done for us as revealed in the Bible—the counsels of eternity in our interest; the Lamb slain from the foundation o f the world; the strange movements in history which cen tered in a cross; the subsequent move ments radiating from that cross; the deep concern of angel hosts as they watch our attitude toward the Crucified One; the ex haustion of symbols and types and figures, made to contribute to the mighty mass of impressions by which the truth is to reach our hearts—consider all these points. Do they not seem like causes o f fiction until in them we see something o f God’s esti mate of the richness and depth of our na tures? Shall we say that God calls us to a life too great for us, that He has been de ceived in us ? Shall we stand and wonder, and do nothing? The revelation o f our true relation to Him and to His purpose December 20— “He that is perfect in knowledge is with thee ” (Job 36:4). "Buy the Truth and Sell It Not” (An Enduring Investment in Orthodoxy) Proverbs 23: 23 W HEATON C o lleg e has always been definitely com mitted to the proclamation and propagation of the truth which is in Christ Jesus. Its.fundamental doc trinal platform is the work o f out late and beloved President Charles A. Blanchard, D. D., and other Christian leaders. A gift to Wheaton College is therefore an enduring investment in orthodoxy —one which, when you are gone, will still continue to yield largely. Wheaton College offers a very attractive life annuity contract, paying as high as 10 % and making you a present and future partner in its business o f Christian education. We shall gladly mail you our descrip tive booklet—use the coupon today.

Wheaton is strong scholastic- ally. It is accredited a “Class A ” college by the University o f Illinois, and is fully accredited by various college accrediting associations and state Departments o f Education. While a group o f 21 Illinois colleges including Wheaton, last year averaged a gain o f but half-a- student per college; Wheaton gained 111 students and turned many away. In other words, the standards o f Wheaton both educational and spiritual, are high. Its administra tion is capable and successful; and it is being marvelously used o f God.
