CEO MESSAGE
A Flourishing Future A common question we hear as hope is on the horizon due to the increasing number of people vaccinated and life as we know it seems to be changing in many ways, is what do we do next? In the writing and commentary on this topic one word that I think is great to carry with us going forward is “flourish.” Given the past long months of sadness and challenges both at work and for our families and community, we know that the worry, isolation and exhaustion have taken their toll. As our community is beginning to feel the difference that is starting to happen, research reveals that one of the things we can do is take time to flourish. What does that mean? Here are just a few ideas that come to mind. Perhaps there are one or two that you might like to do, as we begin this new period of our lives. Celebrate more, not only the big events that will eventually return but the smaller things like meeting up with old friends or organizing a family get-together. Reconnect with someone you have missed during the pandemic. Pursue an interest that the pandemic prevented you from doing, either learning something new or rejoining a group you had to forego. Savor more things in the moment, like a little chat with someone you encounter on an elevator or at a store, an “awe” walk or “mindful photography”--just taking a picture of something that makes you happy. Something that helps me flourish today is reflecting on my gratitude for all of our caring staff members at OneWorld who have worked so selflessly and tireless during this pandemic and for the generosity of our wonderful donors, who make it possible for us to have a greater impact.

table. OneWorld social work team and volunteers have been delivering bags of food to our patients and those with Covid. “Food insecurity is still a big issue for many of our patients” said Courtney Allen Cowardin, CNM, OneWorld Associate Medical Director for Women’s Health “We work to keep our dry food pantry stocked in the clinic so if we have a patient who has gone without food we are able to grab them a few things. This is especially a health concern for pregnant mothers who go days without having a meal. We do not want anyone to leave hungry.” “Health justice requires the reduction of health disparities.” Andrea Skolkin, Chief Executive Officer, OneWorld Community Health Centers
At OneWorld Community Health Centers, community is not only in our name it is at the root of what we do. Our foundation was built upon the community coming together to serve one another, and through our community partnerships today we are continuing to do just that. As job loss and health concerns have strained already struggling families, OneWorld has worked to provide access to essentials and resources to help with daily needs. Through partnerships with community food rescue groups and donations, OneWorld has been able to offer supplemental food resources to those who cannot afford to put food on the

Providing access to health care and bridging inequity gaps is our mission. We believe in Care For All People and part of that care is reaching people in a language they understand. “Through this pandemic we have seen groups of people be disproportionately impacted, said Andrea Skolkin. “Testing processes were complicated, too complicated for populations with different native languages and cultural backgrounds, older adults, those without transportation, those living on very limited incomes and those with complex mental health issues. We have been working to bridge those gaps.” In partnership with Radio Lobo and groups like Tri-Faith Initiative we have been working to get information out about COVID-19, clear up the facts and myths and provide information about the vaccine in multiple languages. OneWorld has also been working with businesses to promote health and safety for their employees and offer opportunities for vaccination. “The leadership team at the JBS meatpacking plant demonstrated sincere care and concern for their workers,” said Angie Washington, OneWorld Development Manager. “From the initial planning stages until the completion of the vaccination event they kept in close communication with the OneWorld team. They collaborated with us to create informational videos to educate their staff. They closed down production on the vaccination event day and incentivized their staff to receive the vaccine. OneWorld volunteers and team were welcomed and met with eager helpfulness at every moment of the day. The environment was free of fear and had an air of positivity. I applaud JBS for caring well for their team.” “We have been strengthened by our community partners throughout Omaha. These partnerships help us to provide health supplies, masks, food, temporary isolation housing, and so much more back to our community.” Jen Mayhew, OneWorld Operations Director

Vaccine check-in
OneWorld Shedquarters
Upon entering “Shedquaters” screeners help take care of the registration paperwork and direct individuals to their specific seat. A nurse then comes to them and administers the shot while another team member helps to schedule a follow up appointment and prepare a vaccine card. “I really love my job. It makes me so happy to see the smiles of the patients. I think this brings hope to the people and it makes me really happy” Patricia Paniagua, OneWorld Patient Registration Specialist
Over the past six months our OneWorld team has been working to vaccinate as many people in our community as possible. Every OneWorld clinic has been vaccinating patients and at “Shedquarters,” our industrial tent at the Livestock Exchange Health Campus, we have been vaccinating patients and non-patients. With each age group that has been approved for the vaccine, people have hurried to make appointments. “Shedquarters” has become a particularly happy place. After a year of being isolated patients are excited to get the vaccine. There is an air of hope, thinking about the possibilities, what it will be like to get back to normal in a post pandemic world.

Patricia Paniagua, OneWorld Patient Registraion Specialist
Everyone is so grateful for the opportunity to get vaccinated and thankful to the health care workers and all they have done to fight for the health of our community. “I remember my first patient who received the vaccine” said Patricia “She was 92 and had been isolated for the past year, only able to see family through the window. Prior to Covid she provided housing for refugees in need who she called her ‘kids’. She told me we made her day because she was going to be able to be with family again and see “her kids” who she missed so much.” Getting vaccinated is the most effective way to fight the spread of Covid-19. If you have not yet been vaccinated, please call 402-734-4110 to schedule an appointment. We are offering vaccinations to anyone 12 years or older. If you have questions about the vaccine please visit our website for informational videos in multiple languages. https://www.oneworldomaha.org/oneworld- coronavirus-covid-19-updates/

The OneWorld Baby Boutique is scheduled to reopen in early July and our expecting mothers cannot wait! Since 2013 the Baby Boutique has been providing incentives and encouragement to women who seek early and consistent prenatal care and helping to provide baby essentials that so many of our families cannot afford. OneWorld patients receive Baby Buck vouchers by attending prenatal appointments, bringing their infants in for well-checks, and vaccinations. New mothers are then able to use the Baby Bucks to shop in the Baby Boutique. During the pandemic our Boutique closed as a safety precaution and our team looked for alternative ways to assist new mothers. There is something special, an air of excitement, about being able to shop and personally pick out items for your baby. It is thanks to our volunteers and donors that we are able provide this opportunity to our moms in need in the Omaha area. If you or your group is interested in volunteering or donating items to the Baby Boutique please contact, Development Manager, Angie Washington at 402-502-8917 or email awashington@oneworldomaha.org. Right here in Omaha, thousands of hardworking families cannot afford health care. Though OneWorld helps people enroll in Medicaid and the health insurance marketplace, we are finding that many of our patients do not qualify or cannot afford the premium. Our sliding fee scale ensures that all patients receive care regardless of insurance status. We offer our patients a trusted place to come when they need medical, dental, behavioral health or pharmacy services, and we can connect them with community resources. We also educate our patients about the importance of prevention and encourage them to take time for their health. Being here for our patients makes a big difference in their lives, but we need your help so we can continue to care for those who need us. Contribution For Care
