a sort of developing our psychological muscles. It is a matter of faith in a Person. It is a matter of—a Friend. —A London Journalist. 7. Unmixed Blessings “Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard,. . . the things which God hath prepared for them that love him” (1 Cor. 2:9). There is no good in this life but that which is mingled with some evil. Hon ors perplex, riches disquiet, and pleas ures ruin health; but in heaven we shall find blessings in their purity, without any ingredient to embitter, with every thing to sweeten them. Oh! who is able to conceive the inexpressible, -incon ceivable joys that are there? None but they who have tasted of therti! —John. Bunyan. 8 . Intimacy with Christ “I am my beloved’s, and my beloved is mine” (Cant. 6:3). The believer enjoys, in favored sea sons, such an intimacy with the Lord Jesus as fills his heart with an over flowing peace. . . . He who would comprehend it must experience in his own heart what it is to have fellowship with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ. There is such a thing as Christ' manifesting Himself to us as He does

1. Best “ And God blessed the seventh day, and hallowed it: because that in it he rented from all his work which God created and made’’ (Gen. 2:3). God rested! The day, the seventh day, was hallowed to commemorate the rest of God. He not only.rested from His work of creation, but He rested in fel lowship with the man who wag subject to and dependent on Him as the God of grace and love. This relationship/ of grateful dependence on God is necessary before there can possibly be rest and peace for the man, the nation, or this world.—Mrs. A. L. Dennis. 2. The Reason for the Gift “Ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost” (Acts 2:38). In giving the Holy Ghost, God gave you all you need for all your Christian life and service. It matters not what you are, or what you are not; it matters not what you can do or what you cannot do—you have all in having Him. He has not been given to help you when you do your best. He has been given to do all, because over the very best that you can produce God has written “no good thing.”—David Tryon. S. His Encouragement “Blessed be the Lord: for he hath showed me his marvelous kindness” (Psa. 31:21). 4. The Approval of Conscience “Herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offense to ward God, and t o w a r d men” (Acts 24:16). To gain the approval of conscience means honest self-criticism. One at tempt to secure safety in the black-out hours is the wearing of a phosphorescent button, disc, or badge. Its power to glow in the dark depends upon its being ex posed to the light at regular intervals. If conscience is to keep its sensitiveness, it must be often in the light that shines at the mercy seat and in the Scriptures and in the fellowship of Christ. —John MacBeath. 5. The New Commandment “A new commandment I give unto In days of service,' In hours of distress, In times of prayer Or times of quietness, / His presence has been with us; His love has been around us; His grace has e’er been flowing For His own. —lone Lowman!

you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you” (John 13:34). Why should *Jesus have called His commandment of love a new command ment? There was an old' command^ ment, “Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.” Some people suppose this is the same as the commandment the Lord' gave to His disciples. But there are two differences. The old command ment referred to your neighbor . . . the new refers to your brother . . . The other difference is in the measure of the love, “as thyself,” “as I have loved you.”—J. R. 'Miller. Our Triumph “In the world ye shall have tribula tion: but ... . I h a v e overcome the world” (John 16:33). ' He overcame—we overcome in Him. Our triumph is .assured as long as we trust Him. Victory depends on our faith in Him. Let us ask ourselves, What is _ He to us? What is our attitude of soul to Him ? It is not a matter of outlook on life, not a question of self-sufficiency, 6 .
