October 2017

October is the busiest month of the year for us. The cold weather moves in, and all those procrastinators we talked about a few months ago are feeling the temperature drop in their homes again. In addition to people who need their insulation replaced, it’s also flood season, and rodents everywhere want to get inside your house. The phone starts to ring nonstop, and our schedules get packed. This used to put us in an eternal state of chaos. Don’t get me wrong, we’re still running around all day, and we will be until well into the new year. But we prepare for the busy season all year long, slowly ramping up our team until we’re ready to meet the oncoming storm. It’s not easy to find guys who stick it out in this line of work. Climbing into crawl spaces and tearing out insulation in attics isn’t fun work. It’s a hard, dirty job, and it’s not uncommon for new guys to leave after their first day. Not everyone has the energy for this kind of physical labor. However, after a while, the guys who do stick around will insist the work isn’t that hard! I think they get used to being a part of the team and buckling down each day to do what needs to be done. Over time, I have noticed a pattern when it comes to hiring people: the Clean Crawls Rule of 2. If a new guy makes it two days, he might last the week. If he lasts two weeks, he’ll probably be there for the rest of the month. If he makes it two months, we can count on him for the year. And if he’s still around after two years, chances are he’ll make it to 10. A lot of our guys have been here for seven or eight years, with some sticking with us for over 14 years! I don’t believe in laying people off. We bring on more people each year to meet the demands of the busy season. When the work slows down, I try to spread things out so everyone is still making enough to take care of their families. These guys are willing to work hard, and I don’t want them to worry about not having full-time Where Would We Be Without Our Team? 2 DAYS, 2 WEEKS, 2 MONTHS, 2 YEARS

work. Of course, when the busy season swings around again, and everyone’s working six days a week, we’re dreaming about those slow days! It’s thanks my team’s dedication that Clean Crawls is able to take care of our clients as well as we do. In our busiest time of the year, we’re able to get out to a new client’s house between two and seven days after they call. This is something of a miracle! Back in August, I heard about some of our competitors who were already booked four weeks out. That means, if you called them today, they wouldn’t be able to help you until next month! We’ve been in business since 2001, and in those early days, this busy season would put us behind. But business comes in cycles, and if you pay attention, you can prepare and sail through the crazy times with ease. For us, building a great team helps meet our client’s needs and provide the best service year after year. I am very blessed to have such a great crew. I literally couldn’t do this without them. - Chuck Henrichsen
