Junior Percussion Ensemble Years 3-6
Music Theory is the study of how and why music works. Following the ABRSM syllabus, children learn about key signatures, time signatures and note values – the building blocks of all music. Theory Club is an excellent way for children to advance their understanding of music and compliments the practical learning of music in instrumental lessons and the theory work done in class.
Orchestra is available to those children in Years 3-6 who learn an orchestral instrument either inside or outside of school. The orchestra meets Friday during the lunchtime break. Playing in the orchestra can greatly improve sight-reading skills, rhythm and independent playing and is a lot of fun! The orchestra learns a wide range of repertoire from classical to jazz and perform during the year including in the Christmas Concert and the Summer Concerts. Pianists are also welcome to join and put their keyboard skills to good use in the Percussion section of the orchestra.
Junior Percussion Ensemble is open to pupils who do not have percussion lessons but really enjoy making music with others. It is hugely beneficial in developing musicianship skills and musical awareness. There will be a number of performing opportunities throughout the year including performing in the Christmas Concert and Summer Concerts.
