tVAVAVAVAVAVliVAVgVMaiVTOVglgViàVATa “Is It Everywhere The Same, Mummy? "You call me sister in your letter/’ writes a Hebrew Christian from Warsaw, Poland, "and I shall never forget that. It is a long time, very long indeed, since any body has called me so. For years under the Nazi rule. I was like an outlaw, hunted like a leprous dog. And now this goodness of people I do not know personally, but who are mine through the bonds of a common Saviour, is overwhelming. I feel again that I am a human being. "I simply feel crushed by all your kind ness, and I want to thank you and the other friends of this Christian Society for all your great help. "Your two parcels arrived. They con tained such wonderful food, some dresses for me, and shirts and underwear for my 11-year-old son, Andrew Gabriel. Now we are rich! "I sometimes wondered, does God still love me? But now I know that He does, and I accept the suffering as a badge of honor. It was He who helped me to be come acquainted with you, I do not deserve all this help. "My little boy asked me to thank you and all the good ladies of your Society for their help and interest in us. He is so happy that there are some Hebrew Chris tians in this world. I had to take him out of school, and I am very sorry. He was persecuted by-»the other boys, who called him ‘Jew’, and kept throwing stones at him. " 'Is it everywhere the same. Mummy?’ my boy asks me. What shall I answer him?’’ Will you give him the answer—him and thousands of his little hungry, sick, and persecuted brothers and sisters, and their weary and broken Mummies and Daddies? Let your deeds of love give them the right answer—that God is love and that those who are His own, love the suffering brethren of our Saviour, and that in Him there is peace and abundant salvation. Remembering at this New Year Season the Lord’s abundant goodness to us, will you please send us your generous gifts in order that we may help our so terribly distressed brethren in Europe? M e m o r y V e r s e : “Give us this day our daily bread” (Matt. 6:11). Perhaps the little boy’s mother had packed a lunch for him early that mornipg because he planned to go fishing for the day. On the way he stopped to see why a crowd had gathered on the hillside. As he drew near, he heard a Man (who was the Lord Jesus) telling wonderful stories about His Father. All day long the multitude had listened eagerly to the Saviour’s life-giving words. As evening drew near, Jesus knew that the people were hungry. To one of His disciples, Philip, He said, “Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat?” One of the disciples, Andrew, said to the Saviour, “There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many?” Perhaps the little boy was close enough to the Saviour to hear Him speaking with His disciples. He re membered his little lunch. Could Jesus use so little food to feed so many people? He was the Son of God. Perhaps He could even do that! Quickly the lad offered his lunch to Jesus who took the loaves, thanked His Father for the food, and gave it to His disciples to give to the people. When they had eaten all that they wanted, the disciples gathered twelve baskets of left-over food. When the people saw the miracle that Jesus performed, they knew that truly He was the Son of God. Have you a gift that your Saviour may use? Perhaps you have thought that your talents were too small to offer unto Him. Give to your Lord whatever you may have, and you, too, will be surprised at the miracles that He will perform with even your smallest gifts. by H. A. Ironside, D .D ., Litt.D. The Bible Institute of Los Angeles main tains a Jewish Department whose min istry deals with the preaching of the Gospel to God’s ancient people, Israel. From this office go out thousands of pieces of literature especially prepared to interest the Jews. Also many of the students are engaged in visitation work, calling upon the Jewish people and inviting them to the meetings. Teams of students hold regular street meetings in places where an audience can be secured. Various prayer meet ings are held and every Sunday at 4 p. m. in the lower auditorium of the Bible Institute of Los Angeles a mass meeting is held with fine speakers. You are invited to pray for the work of the Jewish Department, and to support this ministry by your prayers and gifts.
