Grade 3 Unit 2 Bend I Sample

ENSURING ACCESS YOUR ULTIMATE GOAL TODAY is that students will learn more about their topic by teaching others about it in a clear and engaging way.

z If some children find it difficult to discuss their texts, you might provide sentence starters like “In this text I learned…” or “Today I learned…” Help listeners nudge for more information with follow up phrases such as “Can you say more?” and “What are you thinking about that?” z Entering and emerging language learners will benefit from partners who embrace the role of supporting classmates who are new to English. Gather these supportive part- ners together and help them learn techniques that can be

especially helpful for friends who are newer to English. For example, teach them that asking yes/no questions is a way to start, as well as asking questions that can be answered without words. Help these students become invested in their friends’ progress. z Guide research groups to read in chunks, and then pause to teach others what they’ve learned, helping them build understanding and gather information collaboratively. This will help all of your learners.
