ENSURING ACCESS YOUR ULTIMATE GOAL TODAY is to help students ask and answer questions about the new information they have learned, doing so in ways that help to solidify their learning as they wrap up their first research project.
z Today’s session will be celebratory and supportive for all your students. Be sure to encourage all of them, including those working below benchmark, to reference their notes and word collections when discussing and sharing their learning with others. They will also want to draw on illus- trations and perhaps passages in texts. z As research groups talk together, do not be afraid to sit in as a proficient partner when conversation stalls. You might choose to whisper in a sentence starter to keep the
conversation going. You might choose to pause the group to help get students back on track. Or you might toss an exciting question or idea into the mix of conversation and help spark new ideas. z Look at today’s work time for a bank of suggestions for ways you can help your multilingual learners with the work of asking and answering questions. You can tailor these strategies to meet the needs of a range of learners.
